I meant the practicality of a leather case.

Yes, leather cases do remind us to that old times, but can it really protect your camera?

I haven't seen one, but I am just speculating that Lowepro 50 series is only 14.95 and has a lot of room for extra battery plus some SD cards pocket in the front with neck strap.

And.. it has a lot of cushion with weather resistant material all around...

Oh and btw, it's black.. and light!

I purchased my D-Lux 3 with case in March 07 and am delighted with the camera but not the case. For a while I put the case on my belt but found it a bit bulky under a jacket. I then decided to start using the shoulder strap a month ago and on two occasions one of the clips opened and I just caught the camera in time before it hit the ground. However my main concern is that the clip opens and i do not notice the camera falling ie one lost Leica! There seems to be a design falut with the strap clip unto the case ring - anyone else had this experience? The lug of the clip seems to have caught in my clothing and opened the clip. I am now back to using my belt but thinking of writing to Leica to complain about this fault. Any ideas?

I bought a spare Leica leather Trinovid 8 x 20 binocular case for my D-Lux 2.

It goes nicely on my belt alongside the 8 x 20 binos and I don't notice either of them until I need them.

Incidentally the Trinovid 8 x 20s are a great pair of binocs.

Leica have withdrawn the leather case these days, and only provide Cordura.

"after my father gave me his Kodak 35 when I was a kid was to remove it from its brown leather case"

Just thought I would add my $.02. I still have the Kodak 35 I bought as a kid - worked a whole summer to be able to buy it - and for those that remember, the choice at that time was between a Kodak 35 and the Argus C3. Anyone remember what the Kodak 35 cost in those days?

BTW, Bought a case at Allen's Camera in Levittown PA - case came with an extra battery. Allen is a Leica dealer and calls himself the B & H of Levittown - he comes close to their prices and give personal service with it.

I expect delivery of the brown classic leather case for the Leica D-Lux 3 soon. As everyone knows, this particular case has been in "short-supply" to meet the high demands. I have been checking daily at B&H for a very long time and was fortunate to find there stock available for the case that particular day. I quickly placed my order through this excellent company and when I checked again 20-minutes later, the Leica case was "out of stock." Good luck on your pursuit to obtain this case. I would recommend checking everyday at the respective stores.

After buying my D-Lux, I considered the various classy leather cases but didn't have the time to buy before leaving on a trip.

Looking over my camera stuff I found I still had a 'throwaway' starter camera - bought years ago to see if there was 'any future in this digital stuff'. The case for it turns out to be a perfect, belt attaching case, for the D-Lux, with enough room for the spare battery and a card or two.

It would be difficult to find a cheaper looking case - but it does the job, and who'd believe that it contained a Leica? Those cool, leather cases with a nice smell are fine (Luigi's cases are great) but sometimes a cheapo which is functional, does the job.

Not a great pic but it shows the case, with it's previous and current occupant.

Follow-up for those individuals that are interested. I received the brown classic leather case for my Leica D-lux 3 yesterday. As expected, the quality and workmanship is exquisite. The form-fitting camera case leaves "minimal" room to place anything else to carry. Overall, I am pleased with the purchase of this case and very lucky to have been able to secure one without too long of a wait.

All this talk about cases for the DLUX3 - does anone know where I can get a full or ever ready case in leather for my Digilux 3. No Luigi does not make one.

David Watts,

Cornwall.

U.K.

David,

FWIW - Before running out of time on my search, I was thinking about what these guys offered: Cutecamecase.com - Your #1 Source for "Cute" Camera Cases

But then again Luigi's cases obviously have more style - he seems to do more than one - scroll down towards the end of this page : Cases for Leica Digital.htm

Good hunting

Les

Last night I found approximately six auctions for the D-Lux 3 leather case.

I ordered mine and waited for the back-order delay for over two months. It was expensive, but worth the wait. the case is classic, convenient and elicits a bunch of favorable comments. I just wish it wasn't so extravagantly priced.
