jmahto Posted June 29, 2016 Share #21  Posted June 29, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) a .... How do other people frame with a 28??  I shoot loose with 28mm and crop in post. Many a times I end up with multiple crops of the same pic because all look nice. My 28mm is the most used focal length. I tried using 35mm but went back to 28mm. Advertisement Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Hi jmahto, Take a look here 28mm on the M 240. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
DwF Posted June 30, 2016 Share #22  Posted June 30, 2016 Perfectly imperfect. I like it a lot with the angle. It adds not detracts  Thank you for that Ralph. It gives it a bit of that voyeur feel which seems appropriate here   Also I liked the row of trash bins.  David
ralphh Posted June 30, 2016 Author Share #23 Â Posted June 30, 2016 Me too and I think the angle strengthens the leading line they create, along with the line of the building at the top

I'm still bugged by not being able to see the frame lines properly. It feels like shooting with a holga! I know it shouldn't matter, but it just bugs me!  Before someone says "just get a 35 then", i do want to percivere and learn to tame this thing. Just looking for some help and encouragement! rirakuma Posted June 30, 2016 Share #25 Â Posted June 30, 2016 The best way to get comfortable is to practice. I personally like to zone focus and use an external 28mm finder for quick framing. For accurate framing I would use the rangefinder and use the corners as guides. Since you have an M you can easily do a live view test to get a gauge on frame accuracy at various distances. Best of luck

I went back to 28mm from 35 because - I don't have to worry about framing. I get everything (almost) seen in the RF window. Now I am so much used to seeing 28mm angle that I can shoot blind (with zone focus) and get a good sharp shot. I can not do that with 35mm or longer lens. - More DOF than 35mm means more forgiving in focus accuracy in f5.6 where I shoot mostly. Occasionally I do shoot at wide aperture then you just need to be careful. -Better sun stars than 35mm. I am a sucker for nice sunstars in landscape shots. - essentially 28mm turns my M into a fabulous P&S.  A very recent quick and loose shot at f13. No need to focus. I was pleased with the results. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/261858-golden-light/?p=3065585  Having said that, I should add that if I shot mostly indoors and people then I would have preferred my 35FLE as go to lens since it gives awesome "look". It just that it is less versatile than 28mm.  It all depends on kind of pictures you are shooting.  Edit: forgot to add that I love the look of 50lux even more than 35FLE. Therefore I went back to 28,50 combo after flirting with 35.
ralphh Posted July 1, 2016 Author Share #27  Posted July 1, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Bit of a price difference between the Elmarit and the 35FLE though as much as I'd love one, it's not within my budget.  Thanks guys, you've made me feel a lot better about this 28 -- I've just had a play walking round my house guessing focus by tab position (at f11 - I'm just getting started!) and framing from the hip and it's not as hard as I would have thought, and it's amazingly fast to do.  It's also something you couldn't easily do with a DSLR, which I like - it's interesting to find something my Leica can do that my 5DIII can't - except come with me all day without making me hate carrying it!  It can also sit on a restaurant table without eliciting a scowl from my wife - the 5D can't do that either   I'm definitely going to try this zone focusing and shooting from the hip with my daughter - it's very quick, and has the added advantage that I don't have to kneel in the dirt to get down to her level! rirakuma Posted July 1, 2016 Share #28  Posted July 1, 2016 Don't be afraid to get close up shots of your daughter, this lens handles distortion really well Welcome, dear visitor! microview Posted July 1, 2016 Share #30  Posted July 1, 2016 I would crop square the photograph with the post  The eye tends to do this automatically: the stuff on the left being irrelevant.
