When I use manual focus the little box or boxes that show where the camera is metering disappear, and I can't tell what the camera is metering. Would someone please tell me what I might be doing wrong? Or is this the way the camera functions.

Thanks.

I believe the green boxes show where the camera is focusing when it is in multi-field autofocus mode. Therefore, the green boxes disappear when you switch to manual focus. The instruction manual is confusing on this subject because it describes this autofocus mode as "multi-metering." The various ways to control exposure start on page 180 of the instruction manual.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I can't find anything in the manual. I was using spot metering, and the spot disappeared. It just seems odd that the spot would disappear when you switch to manual focus. If I move the camera I can see that the spot meter is still on, it's just that there's no box showing what you are metering. You can guess that it's on the center of the frame, but how can you move it to meter a spot that isn't on center? I'm hoping that I've just missed something.
