Elmarit 28 new version

Just ordered an Elmarit 28 (latest version) from B&H to go with my Summilux 50 ASPH. It's a small kit but I think these two lenses cover a lot of photo ops. Anyone else have the same basic combo for their Leica M camera? Happy with these two lenses?

I've had it until recently, when I add 35 mm lens. Elmarit is, at least for me, most used lens and is excellent in every respect. For everyday use, with summilux 50, they are perfect combination. Why I add 35 mm lens? Well, for traveling I want just one, universal lens.

The  28 mm is one of my most used lenses ( I use the old version). Very small in volume, great in performance.  I use it together with a Summilux 50 mm and a 90 mm Macro and a 18 mm .But even only with the 28mm and the 50 mm you have an excellent combi, which can cover very much requirements. By the way, the 28 mm works very fine together with an infrared filter for IR photography and the filters are not expensive´, because of the small diameter which is needed.

I have owned both versions of the 28 Elmarit-M Asph.  Both are stunning lenses, real favourites of mine (and so compact), the v2 being IMHO a bit better.  The 50 'lux Asph is an undisputed gem, which I thought I'd never sell, until I sampled a 50 APO Summicron......

 

But in answer to your original question, 28 & 50 is a great combination. Put another way, if I had to consider selling some of my lenses, these are the 2 focal lengths that I would fight to keep!

Something to be said for one camera & one lens.   

 

Decades back my dear friends father went to Europe with his new Nikon F, 50 & 28.

 

I went to a travel slide show in college.  The man used a Contaflex and 50.  Whlle in a camera club, one guest presented his travel slides and was asked what lenses he used.  He looked at the questioner like he was crazy , Leicaflex and 50.

 

Tons of pro pictures were done with TLR Rollies.  

 

Last but not least, HCB predominately used a 50.

 

When Leica used to run photo contests,  they tabulated the shots by lens.  Most winners were 50 mm.

Agree absolutely! Me too, in my Nikon period, just before Leicas, I used mostly 50mm and little less frequently 28mm. Than I bought my first, small Leica x 113, which I take to the trip in Nice. In 4 days I took 2500 photographs and realized that 35mm for my type of photography (mostly street shoots and portraits) is optimal. When I later add M240, I wanted a little more perspective flexibility, so I bought 28 and 50 mm lens. In everyday use now I realize I mostly shoot with 28, but for traveling with one lens only I still think 35mm would be best compromise.
