terrycym Posted June 16, 2016 Share #1 Posted June 16, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) When I look at the EXIF data of a DNG file, I notice that latitude, longitude & altitude are all set to 0 (zero). They should be blank! I don't use the Leica Multi-Function grip and prefer to go tag my images using a tracklog file from a Garmin eTtex. Lightroom is telling me that all my untaged images were shot somewhere in the Atlantic off Africa!!! I checked RAW files from my Canon and all the GPS data is blank as it should be. I don’t know if this is related but I notice in the menu that GPS is set to “On” but is greyed out. I don't know if this was always broke or broken by a recent "upgrade". How do I complain to Leica and get it fixed?
Advertisement Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 Hi terrycym, Take a look here GPS data set to 0. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
marchyman Posted June 16, 2016 Share #2 Posted June 16, 2016 I noticed that myself when testing changes to my geotagging program with M 262 files. I made a change to my program to treat a location of 0/0 as no location specified. As for reporting bugs... the leica owners web site -- https://owners.leica-camera.com/index.php/en/login -- says you can use the address <software-support@leica-camera.com> to report issues with "the included software". I take "included software" to also mean camera firmware. I reported a Q metadata issue to that address an got back a response requesting more info. No fix yet, though. terrycym Posted June 16, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted June 16, 2016 Thanks, I sent an email to software-support. I hope the look at it! I've received an auto-reply from them... "Dear Sir or Madam, Thank you for your e-mail. You will receive a timely response at the email address you provided." What software do you produce? I use RoboGEO to geo-tag all my images
marchyman Posted June 17, 2016 Share #4 Posted June 17, 2016 I wrote a simple thing to tag photos on my Mac back in the days before Aperture, Lightroom, etc., had that function built in. I still add a feature every year or three and make sure it runs with the current version of OS X. It doesn't do much, but it does what I need. http://www.snafu.org/GeoTag/
Tietje Posted June 19, 2016 Share #5 Posted June 19, 2016 I had a similar problem when using a geo-tagging app on my iPhone called GeoTagr. The developer very kindly altered the app so when it encountered a 0/0 setting it changed to blank so I could the use his app successfully with my M240. fotomas Posted June 19, 2016 Share #6 Posted June 19, 2016 I use C1 and with that the GPS tag stays empty.

How do I complain to Leica and get it fixed? My pictures taken with the GPS detached (M240) do not have this problem; Lightroom sees them as untagged. terrycym Posted June 20, 2016 Author Share #10 Posted June 20, 2016 What firmware version do you have. what do you see if you look at the properties of the DNG in Windows Explorer?
marchyman Posted June 21, 2016 Share #11 Posted June 21, 2016 Exiftool sees M 262 images using current firmware as having tags with nil or zero values. Specifically: GPS Version ID : 2.2.0.0 GPS Latitude Ref : Unknown () GPS Longitude Ref : Unknown () GPS Altitude Ref : Above Sea Level GPS Time Stamp : 00:00:00 GPS Status : Measurement Void GPS Dilution Of Precision : 0 GPS Speed Ref : Unknown () GPS Speed : 0 GPS Track : 0 GPS Date Stamp : 2000:00:00 GPS Altitude : 0 m Above Sea Level GPS Date/Time : 2000:00:00 00:00:00Z GPS Latitude : 0 deg 0' 0.00" N GPS Longitude : 0 deg 0' 0.00" E GPS Position : 0 deg 0' 0.00" N, 0 deg 0' 0.00" E Apple's image processing library unfortunately converts the "Unknown ()" values to for Latitude and Longitude Ref into valid values. Using a 0 latitude and a 0 longitude as meaning "unknown" is a flawed workaroud that will unlikely cause any real problems. But still, there should be no GPS table entries if there is no GPS data for the image.
terrycym Posted June 21, 2016 Author Share #12 Posted June 21, 2016 Thanks. That confirms my issue. it should be blank and not zero. my Canon does in fact have blank GPS data when no GPS unit is attached as expected. So far no meaningful replies from Leica to my multiple emails which is most disappointing.
Exodies Posted June 21, 2016 Share #13 Posted June 21, 2016 I have firmware version 2.0.3.0 In Apple Mac finder there are no coordinates shown but I looked at some older pictures taken with previous firmware and although Lightroom shows no geo tag, the finder shows a tag with values 0.
