aseancat Posted June 12, 2016 Share #1  Posted June 12, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello!  I have just notice the small "!" with the GPS icon on the menu bar.  What does it mean? GPS can not find your location perhaps? Does that indicate a malfunction?  Tried reseting the camera; reinstalling firmware; GPS still indicates "!" when turned on.  Thank you so much for your kind assistance. aseancat Posted June 12, 2016 Author Share #6 Â Posted June 12, 2016 GPS on but no reception. Â Â Â Which would mean the EVF's GPS function is faulty? EVF is installed on the camera permanently, camera GPS turned on yet all the images have "0" value but photos taken with cellular phone simultaneously registers the place's location; which rules out GPS not being able to ID the place. Cellular phones may use other systems to support gps system like your provider system triangulating based on your location to a cell station.

Perhaps the user guide might provide you some help?
pop Posted June 12, 2016 Share #10 Â Posted June 12, 2016 My manual says on p. 179 that the icon stands for GPS being turned on and there not being any reception. Your sample above looks like a photograph of a TV screen which I think is indoors. You can not usually receive the GPS signal from the satellites when indoors or in deep gorges or some such. julian m Posted June 12, 2016 Share #11 Â Posted June 12, 2016 In my usage, even outdoors in a very clear area, it takes a very long time for GPS to acquire a signal. Which means I mostly see that icon. Eventually it'll acquire a signal and the "!" will go away. Â When I intend to use GPS, I leave the T turned on with a long auto-off time (but very short screen-off time).

Your sample above looks like a photograph of a TV screen which I think is indoors. You can not usually receive the GPS signal from the satellites when indoors or in deep gorges or some such.  but, checked all the images outdoors, mountain tops, sea and coasts lines, the gps basically has "0" for location, thinking about it, remember having noticed the same "!" whilst out shooting at the beach, never put to much thought on it before, until when I needed to establish the location for an image.  In my usage, even outdoors in a very clear area, it takes a very long time for GPS to acquire a signal. Which means I mostly see that icon. Eventually it'll acquire a signal and the "!" will go away.  When I intend to use GPS, I leave the T turned on with a long auto-off time (but very short screen-off time).   will set the auto-off for longer time, hopefully remedy acquisition of the gps signal and not that there is something wrong with the EVF or (heaven forbid  ) the camera body.  once more, thank you for taking the time to answer and being of help.
