To me, it must be a 50mm Summilux, because that’s the most versatile and average lens I can think of.

But I am really torn between the ASPH and pre-ASPH. I prefer the sharpness from the ASPH and the unsharpness from the pre-ASPH. And to make the confusion complete, I am now also torn between the ordinary ASPH and the Black Chrome version. I prefer the focusing and handling of the Black Chrome, but I don’t like the big, separate sunshade, and that I cannot just put on a lens cap directly on the lens. So the choice between the two is driving me nuts.

But the one lens I for sure will never get rid of, is the pre-ASPH E46, so this is probably my number one lens.

why not?

Because the lens cap must be mounted on the (reverse mounted) lens shade.

in my version I also had a metal cap that goes directly on the lens, not sure if we have the same version? It was hidden under the bottom of the leather pouch

In any case, lovely lens indeed

I also prefer the BC E43 to the standard version.  I left the hood in the box because it's so big.  I use this lens naked, not even a UV protective filter, because Leica can replace the front element if it comes to that.  Not so with some of my older lenses, e.g., the 35 Summilux asph pre-FLE, where I use a protective filters instead of the hood because I think Leica cannot replace that front element.

I found it now, a nice metal cap with black felt inside. I wasn't aware of it. Thank you very much for the tip!

With my newly discovered lens cap I have decided to keep the Black Chrome version and use it without the shade too. It should be pretty flare resistant anyway.

I have both silver chrome 50 Summilux-M ASPH and black chrome APO 50 Summicron-M ASPH (and 50 Summilux-SL ASPH & 50 Summitar LTM, but that’s another story).  I’d rate them, in terms of image quality, SL, APO, Summilux-M and Summitar, but then each has its own character.  My current favourite is the APO on my M10-D, but I’d hate to have to choose.

Oh, and the 0.95 Noctilux 😕
