jaapv Posted June 7, 2007 Share #1 Posted June 7, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Can anybody explain this to me? I bought a pair of Rodenstock sunglasses and they produce EXACTLY the IR effects an unfiltered M8 has. Purple black synthetics, olive greens and all. It is pretty practical that I have them, as I can preview my situation now and decide on filter use, but the scientific explanation is totally beyond me....

arthury Posted June 7, 2007 Share #2 Posted June 7, 2007 The sunglass blocks on some of the visible light and amplifies the near-visible IR?
jaapv Posted June 7, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted June 7, 2007 Yes- I could understand that, but transform it to magenta???
erl Posted June 7, 2007 Share #4 Posted June 7, 2007 Maybe Leica make Rodenstock lenses!! O.K. I'll go to bed now.
bingaloid Posted June 7, 2007 Share #5 Posted June 7, 2007 Could it be that they are polarized? I have a few pairs of polarized lens sunglasses and what I think I see on some (Luxottica and LAEyeworks made) is a combination of the polarization and tint that gives a similar result to the IR sensitivity of the M8, but with a pair of Oakley's (tinted more like a neutral density filter and polarized) the color is more "true". - David
Michael Jones Posted June 8, 2007 Share #6 Posted June 8, 2007 I have observed exactly the same behavior with my prescription sunglasses! I cannot explain it either but I think I will try putting them on and looking through the Leica IR filter! Anyway, our eyes are not overly sensitive to infrared like the M8 sensor...baffling....no pun intended. Michael
Hans Roggen Posted June 8, 2007 Share #7 Posted June 8, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Jaap, What happens when you look through your sunglasses and an IR filter? I suspect there is no difference, but if they were my sunglasses i would have tried. Hans
