What are the chances that the new M will have inbuilt IS?

Makes me feel better for being to impatient to wait for Leica/Photokina and pulling the trigger on a Panasonic micro43 GX85 with Leica brand 15/1.7 and 25/1.4 lenses.

- primarily to try out 4k video at a modest investment ( some of the youtube full resolution examples are stunningly sharp and well stabilized ) .

It will compliment not replace my M9 and M film cameras.

Good to read that, but he wrote that in the context of still photography.  I was looking at IS in the context of video.

While I agree that it would be nice to have better video on the M, it is very unlikely that the M is ever going to be a particularly video centric camera. Leica have clearly gone that direction with the SL, which also works brilliantly with M lenses. I am sure they will do what they can within the form factor of the M cameras, but I think IBIS with an eye to video performance is probably pretty low on the list of priorities for an M body. If your goal is video with M lenses, you are probably better served by the SL, A7RII (for 4k cropped sensor), A7SII (for full frame 4k) or the Panasonic GH4 or whatever they do for a GH5. Any of these will have much better video than the current M, and with the exception of the SL, they are cheap enough that they cost less than most Leica lenses. Expecting the M to have IBIS is a bit like hoping a new BMW M5 will have an automatic opening minivan door for the kids. Sure, it's nice to have, but it might not fit the design parameters very well.

I guessed as much.  I sat up and took notice way back in in 2012 when they touted that the new Leica M would be a filmmaker's tool, but it turned out to be a fizzer.  I was disappointed when the M was released and its video function was very mediocre. 

 

I am already the owner of a Red and Blackmagic, but they're not tools that I take with me as my everyday carry-everywhere camera.  However the M is, and it would be a bonus if it also included IS.
