Mark Pope Posted May 27, 2016 Share #1  Posted May 27, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) When I bought my V2 MATE, it didn't come with the lens hood.  After picking myself off the floor after having seen the price of these items, I decided that there must be a cheaper way of providing some protection from a) flare and knocks. I found a suitable 49mm hood on Amazon for the princely sum of £3.69.  It arrived this morning.  I wasn't surprised to find that there was some vignetting at the 28mm end.  Thankfully, with the aid of the live view on my M, I was able to mark out the areas of the hood that were causing the problem and then get to work with a Dremel type tool and a couple of files...  After about an hour of cutting and to-ing and fro-ing between the living room and the garage, I was happy.  Here is the fruit of my labour...  Welcome, dear visitor! jdlaing Posted May 27, 2016 Share #2  Posted May 27, 2016 Nicely done. If the color, where you cut and filed, wears off too quickly there are some products for blackening aluminum that gunsmiths use that work quite well.  This from experience.......... Guest Posted May 27, 2016 Share #3 Â Posted May 27, 2016 V2 - nice! I notice you also use a UV filter, so maybe finding a second one that is identical could be useful, so when this one might get scratched and you need a new one, the cutouts in the hood are again in the corners. Mark Pope Posted May 28, 2016 Author Share #4 Â Posted May 28, 2016 There isn't a UV filter... But it's an excellent idea.

spydrxx Posted May 28, 2016 Share #6 Â Posted May 28, 2016 I frequently do the same when I can't find a pre-made hood to fit an unusual lens. They look fine and work great. Nice job!
