Its is only today that I opened the May page, to discover that I had missed the day 15 that marked the 75th anniversary of the first British jet flight. Indeed, the Gloster E28/39, powered by the jet engine designed by Whittle and developing 1,860 lb of thrust (843,7 kg!) took off for the first time in 1941 at the Cranwell airfield. It was able to reach a maximum speed of 535 km/h. Here is a trace I preciously keep : the envelope edited by the Royal Air Force Museum in 1971 to mark the 30th anniversary of the event, that was flown to Cranwell by a Jet Provost trainer of the RAF aerobatic team.
