ausdlk Posted June 13, 2016 Share #41 Posted June 13, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I can believe the push-back against those of us who feel like the lack of auto-shutoff is a design flaw. It absolutely is. The inclusion of this feature, on or off, would make everyone happy. The "purists" who push back are the same ppl who refused to accept that the M8's shutter sound was a disaster. Enough people clearly thought so and finally caught Leica's attention -- they woke up and the M8.2 appeared. No matter what you may think, the M8.2 was clearly an admission of failure. My M-D remains in the box until Leica hears us this time around. It would have been returned -- but I don't want to stick my dealer (also my friend) with a "used" camera that Leica won't take back. C'mon Wetzlar, think like a photographer.

d0c0m0 Posted June 14, 2016 Share #42 Posted June 14, 2016 firmware 1.0.0.4 is out... auto shut down after 10 min non-use. excellent. Gesendet von iPad mit Tapatalk Hi Rochus, Today, I updated the firmware but I cannot tell exactly whether the update was done OK or not since there is no version # to display before and after the installation. E.g. The UP and back LED light were illuminated without ERR display. I also never had ERR display throughout the installation process. So, no news is good news Just in case, I did attempt to reinstall the firmware with the same SD card. The UP and back LED light both illuminated very briefly and then went out quickly. I had to assume the camera recognized 1.0.0.4 was already installed. Hence, no re-installation necessary. As far as I know, the frame line and metering will be turned off about <25 seconds of non use. I don't think this is an auto shut downs. Or can you explain how the auto shut down exactly work after 10 min non-use? How do you re-enable the camera after the shut down? I would assume it is a press of the shutter release button which illuminates the frame line and metering displays in the viewfinder ... So far, I enjoyed and have been shooting OK without screen display. That's what I bought the M-D for. But a lack of screen and menu display, I suddenly missed camera info such as firmware version number. For my M9-P, the M9Info utility will display shutter count and other info such as firmware #. But there is no such utility for the M-D. I am also not sure whether the raw DNG from the M-D included firmware version number or not and what tool can display this info. LR 6.6 does not display firmware number ... Thanks.

The "excellent" just meant that this auto shut down ability is now solving accidental battery draining. Need to test how to wake up the camera after auto shut down myself still. Steve Ricoh Posted June 14, 2016 Share #45 Posted June 14, 2016 Auto power-off is a killer on the street - how many missed shots? This is true of all electronic cameras, obviously to conserve battery charge. I'm planning to set my (M240) camera to 'always on' because I'm fed up with the wake up delay in relation to catching 'the moment' - but a question, will it result in overheating of the sensor and/or electronics in hot climates? I've no idea if the designers thought of this, but an inbuilt thermistor (or more likely an electronic sensor such as a simple zener plus a pn junction would offer protection to power down if things get too hot. Capture One V.8.2 is showing the firmware version in the meta Info of the pictures. HTH. Good pictures.

I fail to see the advantage as the camera would shut down most unexpectedly instead of after an interval which is known beforehand.

Just practice tapping, the shutter button too - it will relieve all street shooting stress...

d0c0m0 Posted June 14, 2016 Share #50 Posted June 14, 2016 Capture One V.8.2 is showing the firmware version in the meta Info of the pictures. HTH. Good pictures. I stand to correct myself. LR.6.6 does show firmware/Software # under Metadata section when EXIF is selected. It was set to DEFAULT. My M-D is confirmed with 1.0.0.4 installed. Maybe an M6 would be better suited to tension busting... I need to fondle something nice and tactile, with no on off moments, like a perfect wife!
