enchong Posted June 6, 2007 Share #1 Posted June 6, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi guys just sold my RD1 and my M7 and bought an M8.... I would like to know from the M8 users settings that you guys use for ISO(the maximum you use for indoor and low light that is acceptable) and the WB setting that mostly covers most situations(I have experienced some WB problems so I use the manual mode) I am so far getting good photos... alot better than my 5D and the 1Ds Thanks Enchong

barjohn Posted June 6, 2007 Share #2 Posted June 6, 2007 I use 160, 320 and 640. Only when I have no choice do I go to 1250 and virtually never to 2500. On WB I set it to daylight during the day and incandecent at night unless I know it will be wrong (i.e. flourecent lights or flash). When I am being lazy I set it to auto and pay the price for my sins later.
j. borger Posted June 6, 2007 Share #3 Posted June 6, 2007 I never use iso 160 ....because i find the files too clinical with a very digital look at that iso. Iso 640 is my standard and i use iso 1250 faithfully if necessary. I shoot ad however that i shoot B&W 95% of the time ....
tashley Posted June 6, 2007 Share #4 Posted June 6, 2007 WB is exactly as John describes. as for ISO, I'm a mix of the above guys: if I want a very very clean file or very narrow DOF I use 160 but otherwise 320 is my default. But I have recently started to sometimes use 1250 in daylight because it has a texture and slight softness that really suits the look I want from some subjects - in other words, treat choice of ISO a bit like we used to choose choice of film: it's not just about speed, but also about the look. I find this very useful for enhancing the atmosphere of shots taken in very flat light. Here's a not very inspiring e.g. but it does make my point: the change in texture is clear even at web size, but it still looks nice much larger.
