Hi,

i am looking for a 50mm for my SL and considering a 50 R lux or cron. I love my Mandler lenses, especially the M 90 cron and the R 80 lux.

I was wondering if the 50 cron have the same magical rendering as the 80 lux/90 cron or if I am better of buying the 50 lux? I know the specs and the price difference, but would like to hear peoples opinion on how these two lenses draw?

Thanks,

Arne

I have the v1 50 Summilux R as well as both the v1&2 Summicron R lenses. The v2 Summicron R is indeed a Mandler design, and is very similar to the v4-5 M Summicrn. The v1 lux R is close, but I prefer the Summicron. However, the hard to find final version of the Summilux R with the 60 mm filter thread (instead of 55 mm of the older one) is exceptional, if more like the modern lens rendering than the Mandler designs.

The v1 Summicron R is quite similar to the v3 M design by Mandler, but the R was designed first in Wetzlar, and it's design is credited  to Otto Zimmerman.
