SteveSFO Posted May 2, 2016 Share #1  Posted May 2, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) A little help please. I have the SL with the M to T adapter and a 50 APO Summicron attached. What is happening is that when in Aperture or Manual modes, I set the aperture to a specific setting - say f/2.8 - and compose my image, I notice that as I am moving the camera around the scene, the aperture reading starts to float - reads f/4, f/2, etc...  I've taken an image set at f/2 - the aperture is now floating and release the shutter when it's floating around f/2,8 - the image data will read f/2.8.  Has anyone else experience this issue? I've reset the camera and it appears not to have helped. Any info would be appreciated.  Thanks, Steve

pop Posted May 2, 2016 Share #2 Â Posted May 2, 2016 The SL has no idea what aperture you happened to dial on the M lens. The camera reckons the setting by comparing the light that falls on the sensor to the light it "sees" with its extra eye in front of the body. ramarren Posted May 2, 2016 Share #3  Posted May 2, 2016 How you hold the camera and work the controls will cause the aperture drift as you fingers cross the path of the light sensor on the front of the body.  The aperture reading in the EXIF data with adapted lenses is always just an estimate, don't worry about it.
FlashGordonPhotography Posted May 2, 2016 Share #4  Posted May 2, 2016 As explained above, the SL can't actually tell what aperture is set on an M lens so it makes an estimate, purely for exif readings. The SL can not change the aperture set on an M lens.  The difference you're seeing is that this info is now displayed while shooting. With the old firmware you didn't see this information so you didn't know what the camera was seeing until reveiwing your images.  Hot an issue.  Happy shooting   Gordon
