jeffnesh Posted April 20, 2016 Share #1  Posted April 20, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello,  I just received a new Summarit-M f/2.5 75mm lens and the optional hood. I'm having a heck of a time figuring out how to attach it. The small manual and this forum indicate an outer ring on the end of the lens that should screw off, allowing the hood to screw on from there. The end of my lens does *not* twist. Am I missing something?  I assume that it is the end piece pictured here, outside of the white aperture indicator dot. Or am I missing a piece? If not, any suggestions on getting the darn thing off?  Thanks for any help, Jeff  Welcome, dear visitor! jdlaing Posted April 20, 2016 Share #2 Â Posted April 20, 2016 That outermost ring comes off. A rubber pad like you remove a lid on a jar may help. It must be fitted tight on the lens you have.
Paul925 Posted April 21, 2016 Share #3 Â Posted April 21, 2016 A silicone covered hot pad/oven mitt can also be useful. Â You just need something with some grip to it to help get things started. Â Â
Xavier Posted April 21, 2016 Share #4 Â Posted April 21, 2016 That outermost ring comes off. A rubber pad like you remove a lid on a jar may help. It must be fitted tight on the lens you have. Â I received the same lens+hood a few days ago (maybe from the same source), and this is exactly how I could attach the hood on mine. I did not need any instrument to remove the outer ring, that is maybe 4mm wide (we can see the ring in your photo, it is the part at the very end of the lens, right after the one with the white dot ---the one with the dot is part of the lens and does not detach). Keith (M) Posted April 21, 2016 Share #5 Â Posted April 21, 2016 If it is any consolation, the thread-protector ring (item 1b in the Instruction Manual) on the Summarit is a darned site easier to unscrew/remove than the similar item on the 'Q'! jeffnesh Posted April 22, 2016 Author Share #6 Â Posted April 22, 2016 Thanks, all. I got it off and the hood on. The silicon oven bit was the ticket...enough grip on an otherwise slick ring. I will point out the manual says to turn 'counter-clockwise' to remove. That seems to be 'counter-clockwise with the lens facing away from one'. Meaning, head on, it was clockwise. Not that that was my problem, I originally tried both ways...it was just on very tight. Â Thanks again...a very nice lens... Â -Jeff
