Judy Babinski Posted April 19, 2016 Share #1 Posted April 19, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am coming from an M8 to a MM first generation. I am assuming that there is no benefit to the IR filters that I used on my lenses with the M8. Am I correct or is there some advantage to using an IR filter with a MM. Advertisement Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 Hi Judy Babinski, Take a look here Need for IR filters on Monochrome M. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pop Posted April 19, 2016 Share #2 Posted April 19, 2016 Obviously, you will not get any purplish hues where there is a high proportion of IR light. However, parts of the subject might implausibly appear too light when lit by IR light. I would presume that it was mostly a matter of taste, but I have no way of testing that. jaapv Posted April 19, 2016 Share #3 Posted April 19, 2016 The MM is less IR sensitive than your M8, but it is hardly relevant. For B&W photography filtering IR light has a minimal impact. I would advise you to use a middle yellow filter from time to time on the Monochrom, depending on the subject.
Judy Babinski Posted April 19, 2016 Author Share #4 Posted April 19, 2016 Thanks for the responses. That is what I thought but wanted to confirm. I know the M8 can be used for the infrared effect although I have never used it in that regard. Didn't know if that effect could be achieved, although to a lesser degree, with the MM.
