nawoo Posted April 13, 2016 Share #6 Posted April 13, 2016 Great review! As a fellow Wedding Photographer, could I request if you have any photos of the Q shot during sunrise or sunset, with the sun rays wrapping around the subject from the side or back? I would like to see how the Q does with it's dynamic range. Do you have something like this? I'm considering using it for my wedding work, and hardly see any Q shots with sun rays in them. Most of the shots are mostly straight up shots taken during regular day hours. (Shots from my Contax 645 on film with zero editing)
huckles Posted April 13, 2016 Author Share #7 Posted April 13, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I don't use it for Wedding Work. Use of dual card slots is pivotal for me as safety comes first.
hawk.kat Posted April 13, 2016 Share #8 Posted April 13, 2016 Fab. Agree that the Q is near perfect. WR it and I'd not look at another! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
bbran33 Posted April 13, 2016 Share #9 Posted April 13, 2016 Van, that review hit home for me. As a father of a 5,3, and (almost) 2 year old , I recently purchased the Q for the primary reason of photographing my family. I've always loved photography and used to shoot a variety of subjects, but at this time in my life, all I find I ever want to photograph are the most beautiful thing in my life.....my children. For the past 15 years, Ive been full frame Canon. Sure my 5D3 could nail a lot of sharp "keepers", but when I bought an M9 8 months back, I found I was hitting more " magic" shots, as in my favorite shots of all time. But my 1 year old (well, all my kids) will never sit still. Plus, If they see me taking their picture, they make silly faces or run away A month in, I am absolutely I loving the Q. I'm nailing just as many keepers of my moving kids as my old 5D3, but with the colors and "magic" of the M9. And yeah , some people laugh when someone says the Leica "magic" look, but it's there, at least to me. It's all subjective, and hard to quantify....and I'm an engineer and I "quantify" things for a living. All I know is I'm loving my switch to Leica after 8 months. From 5D3 to M9/ Q combo. flyalf Posted April 13, 2016 Share #12 Posted April 13, 2016 Thanks for sharing! Some absolutely great photos. I don't think we can credit the Q only . All photos shot with AF?
wda Posted April 13, 2016 Share #13 Posted April 13, 2016 Van, I can understand why you are so besotted. A beautiful subject and a highly competent camera. Enjoy!
jlindstrom Posted April 14, 2016 Share #14 Posted April 14, 2016 Van, first of apologies for not reading. I've read enough reciews and have my own Q so just couldn't do it :-) But I did check the photos, which are really nice. Can see that you're shooting professionally. I really need to start getting closer to my subjects.. Of all the "review samples" I've seen online, these are some of the very best. And one of the major differentiators is that you're doing justice to the wide lens and getting close enough. The Q is excellent for the more typical online street photos or landscapes etc, but not that many potraits with this kind of intimate feel to them are around. Excellent work, thanks for sharing. //Juha Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
huckles Posted April 14, 2016 Author Share #15 Posted April 14, 2016 Thanks for the kind words! I'm a wide angle junkie. A much tougher task than a nifty fifty or short tele, but well worth the effort with the correct framing.
XVarior Posted April 14, 2016 Share #16 Posted April 14, 2016 Hi guys, as a Wedding Photographer, these are my thoughts on the Q, albeit with what I use it mostly on, my daughter. I hope you enjoy. My Leica Q review kind regards, Van. magnificent review and Maddison Van. I'm also in the pro side of photography and got the Q recently added to the arsenal which varies from DSLRs to M9 and XVario. The Q is a special tool for those like me who worship the 28mm, I'll be using it for documentary and fashion and after one week of being my mistress "My M9 and XV should never know about the Q for now:-)" I have discovered some downsides but too many positive things too. I'll be preparing a small review as soon as our honeymoon is over.
bbran33 Posted April 16, 2016 Share #17 Posted April 16, 2016 Thought I'd share a few shots if anyone is interested. All shot on day 1 with the Q ....just some family shots, nothing fancy I included 4 shots taken with an M9 / 50mm summilux for comparison. But, you'll have to guess which ones they are [emoji1]. Even though they are just quick family shots, feedback welcome. https://goo.gl/photos/MsE3XbRY4m2vXALD9

(Shots from my Contax 645 on film with zero editing) I can answer that after one week of using it: it does wonders.I think the Q beats the M all Ms in matter of DR. More on that later as I'm still testing but OS far the camera output is impressive.

If yes, then my early notes on the Q Colors are right, the camera is closer to the M9 colors look than to the M240 and that is something surprising to me.
