wildlightphoto Posted April 14, 2016 Share #22 Posted April 14, 2016 Jim Kasson has found some problems with this setup: http://blog.kasson.com/?p=8391 In real-world use i have not seen any problems when I leave IBIS on aside from when it makes the photos too sharp. My hand is on the camera; my subjects move; I follow them with the camera. That's my real world. IBIS also makes magnified focussing with a 500mm lens manageable. If I were making photos using long exposures that's a different story. I see low-frequency waviness in the viewfinder when magnified but it's nothing like the high-frequency jitters without IBIS. Try using a 500mm lens on a camera with IBIS, with the IBIS on and off. Note the difference.
dkCambridgeshire Posted April 14, 2016 Author Share #23 Posted April 14, 2016 Hmmm … Spoke too soon … Although no vignetting was apparent in the VF when composing the images, there is still some vignetting visible in the downloaded image files - but not as severe as with the previously used M to T plus Novoflex R to M adapters. dunk Strangely, vignetting is more noticeable when using extenders with the new adapter - but need to experiment more and make notes of apertures used. These are a few of the PPd images taken yesterday from Alexandra Palace - the objective being to compress perspective . Converted to B&W because made a mess of the white balance! Can you recognise some of the landmark buildings? dunk Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! ramarren Posted April 15, 2016 Share #28 Posted April 15, 2016 Impressive to keep the camera still enough and to have air clear enough for that kind of resolution at that distance in the London area!
dkCambridgeshire Posted April 15, 2016 Author Share #29 Posted April 15, 2016 Impressive to keep the camera still enough and to have air clear enough for that kind of resolution at that distance in the London area! After heavy rain the dust has been washed out the air - when the weather forecast is likely to advise 'very good' or 'excellent' visibility - but that does not necessarily imply 'good light'. During the 90 minute drive we saw the clouds building up so was an anxious journey. Contrary to the forecast the late afternoon light was not so good but the visibility was still OK and humidity was not too high. Daytime images were not so good because of dull light but in the evening when the buildings were illuminated the continuing good visibility enabled clear focusing with good photo opportunities. Several times in the last month I postponed the planned trip because the forecast suddenly changed. I'm used to studying forecasts prior to local astro observing. Cloudy conditions, dull photographic light, but excellent visibility. The Gherkin building is visible in this photo - it's in the centre group and is fourth from the left. Canary Wharf structures are on the left including the HSBC Tower. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! The necessary heavy duty tripods and long lenses are not 'grab and go'. Another trip is planned soon so will continue studying the forecasts looking for a suitable afternoon and evening. Hopefully next time will be sunnier. dunk
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! dkCambridgeshire Posted April 15, 2016 Author Share #30 Posted April 15, 2016 Couple more photos showing the heavy duty tripods and the 800mm Telyt S in use. The 800mm Telyt is supported on a Chinese astro fork mount in the first image and on a Canadian Jobu Design gimbal mount in the second and third photos. The tripod is a Berlebach with a levelling head . The other tripod is a Zone 6 made in the USA with an Arca CUBE head - supporting an 8cm diameter 900mm focal length Pico Maksutov Cassegrain astro telescope which can be attached to a camera via a T2 mount - but it will only cover APS format e.g. Leica T. I'm in the second photo and Leica Forum member John Dodkins is in the first and third photos ... we're also both members of The Leica Society. I'm demonstrating the 800mm Telyt S at the forthcoming Leica Society AGM weekend on 30 April and 1 May when members will have the opportunity to use the lens. Welcome, dear visitor!
