I bought an S2 body from another user who'd had it for several years. Within months of the camera being in my possession, the rubber "leatherette" (or whatever it is) armor around the grip and memory card slot cover started coming off.

Then I bought an S 007. I've had it for about half a year. Again the rubber armor around the grip has now begun to detach, and the small piece on the memory card slot cover is peeling. The latter I can glue back. The former is rather trickier and may in the near future necessitate a couple months' wait for Leica to fix it, which I'm not excited about.

Am I the only one with this problem? I don't believe I handle the camera particularly roughly or have a very sweaty right palm. I do travel between humid and dry climates somewhat frequently.

My S2 was completely re-rubbered twice by Leica and had became unstuck around the hand grip either on return or within two weeks of return from the factory. It was sent in a third time to be re-rubbered and have a bad pixel remapped and Leica just replaced the unit with a new S2-p.

I've had zero rubber issues with the new camera, having had it around 9 months. Maybe it's a unit to unit issue as my original S2 wasn't old and worn, but purchased new in 2013.

The rubber on my battery grip has also come unstuck.

I haven't had any problem like that with my S2 which was third hand and now my S (Typ 007). Sub-tropical here which is the storage conditions at home. I haven't used them much at all outside, usually in air conditioned studio. I wonder if this is heat and humidity related in use? Certainly would be very disappointing to see with your camera.

Can anyone comment on how much it costs to replace the rubber? Thanks.

Same issue (battery door) here with an S006 after some two years. The camera went back to Germany (from within Europe) and came back after ten days, including a sensor as clean as I have ever seen. I.e. the camera was checked and cleaned. No cost to me.

Looking at many posts here over time, I believe that the store you buy from makes a huge difference when an issue pops up. It seems that "your mileage vary" in the US. I'd say that if you buy new and the dealer cannot help you to your full satisfaction, you should definitely not buy from them ever again.

For what it's worth...

I was charged a negligible amount like 8 EUR for the replacement rubber armor.

To leicapages and alan.y: where did you guys have the rubber cover replaced/fixed? So far whoever I asked told me it cannot be done.

That was done by the Leica customer service in Wetzlar, in the context of maintenance of the camera.

I haven't used my S00-6 for quite a while but before I left for work I noticed that the rubber on the CF card door has come away from the body............pissed off. I will take it to a shoe repair shop when I get home and see if they can repair it :(
