Fang Posted April 3, 2016 Share #1 Posted April 3, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have found a simple solution to the EVF2 lock-up / freeze problem by cleaning the contacts of the EVF and the camera. I am sorry that I did not post this earlier. This is because I did not realise that this was such a widespread problem until I read it in the Leica M Type 240 User Group on Facebook yesterday. Please try it and let us know if it help.

CheshireCat Posted April 3, 2016 Share #2 Posted April 3, 2016 Your EVF must have been really dirty, or that is just a coincidence. A recent M240 firmware fixed the most common cause(s) of lockups. Not yet 100% ok, but much better.

Not yet 100% ok, but much better. Maybe. The others in the Facebook User Group tried and well it worked for them as well. We have updated our firmware to the latest. Do you have this problem ? Have you tried ? It maybe coincidence but it worked for me and the others. It will be good to have feed backs from others.
CheshireCat Posted April 3, 2016 Share #4 Posted April 3, 2016 Maybe. The others in the Facebook User Group tried and well it worked for them as well. We have updated our firmware to the latest. Do you have this problem ? Have you tried ? It maybe coincidence but it worked for me and the others. I installed the latest firmware and the frequency of lockups dropped dramatically. The EVF/camera contacts are pristine, so I have never cleaned them.

pop Posted April 3, 2016 Share #6 Posted April 3, 2016 I think it quite plausible that cleaning the contacts can solve problems. However, it appears that the kind of problem which can be solved in this way may not be widespread.
LocalHero1953 Posted April 3, 2016 Share #7 Posted April 3, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have had occasional lockups, but none for a long time. None were associated with using the EVF.
masjah Posted April 3, 2016 Share #8 Posted April 3, 2016 At the risk of being tautologous, in those cases where dirty contacts cause a problem, then cleaning them may well solve it. I've never had a problem with lock ups, but I have had a problem with an erratic EVF2 display when it wasn't pushed fully home, resolved by pushing it in properly (absolutely no surprise whatsoever). My EVF2's contacts are clean, and I've not had a problem, but of course I can say nothing about the converse!

Fang - I've had occasional / rare lockups with the EVF - interested to know what you used for cleaning the internal contacts on the EVF if this is what you did... Fang Posted April 4, 2016 Author Share #10 Posted April 4, 2016 "OK, my anecdotal evidence: my M240 worked perfectly for 4 hours straight through today using EVF-2, with all of the typical on & off of the Live View, and lots of PLAY previews on the rear screen, and lots of magnification, shutter, aperture, and white balance setting. Previously, my camera would lock-up / freeze 100% of the time in the three years I've owned it. The only thing I did differently was to clean the contacts as suggested by Fang Keong Lim above. Firmware never fixed it. Formatting cards never fixed it. New cards never fixed it. Leica never fixed it. I'm going with contact cleaning as the cure!" Pablo King on Leica M Type 240 User Group on Facebook. Pablo reply "I cleaned it with a drop of radio shack precision electrical cleaner, then compressed air, male and female contacts." as for me I cleaned it while shooting in Honghe.
