sumolux Posted April 2, 2016 Share #1 Posted April 2, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Today happy new Q owner, the first thing I noticed is that the little 'loose screw' sound that I heard in other friend's Q cameras is now changed to a more soft back and forth 'clacking' sound. These sounds don't bother me at all, just interesting that Leica has clealy changed something either on the basis of ongoing production development or remarks made by owners. leica_f64 Posted April 2, 2016 Share #2 Posted April 2, 2016 There is another post on here about the sound. It comes from the IS system. In the case of my week old Q it has changed every day since I've owned it. It started out silent (no noise), went to a metallic sound (like a screw loose), then turned to something like a 35mm mirror locking up and now it's calmed down to a more muffled sound. What causes it? I'm not sure. Was this alarming - certainly. Being an engineer by trade I figured I'd let things settle in and they have. From what I've read in the other posts if it reverts and becomes troublesome then it's a trip back to Leica but for now mine is just like most of the others out there. One of the mysteries of the Q. Herve5 Posted April 2, 2016 Share #3 Posted April 2, 2016 Is the change related to your setting the stabilization on or off?
dkaye Posted May 2, 2016 Share #4 Posted May 2, 2016 My Q, now 10 months old, just started making strange sounds. They're worse with the OIS on, but present even without it. Sort of a grinding sound. Plus, when I turn the camera off there's a noticeable "clunk". Worrisome.
lucerne Posted May 2, 2016 Share #5 Posted May 2, 2016 I often hear a clunk and a grind when turning off. It's reassuring to me. AFIK it's the lens aperture being reset. My camera performs faultlessly. Remember, this is not a 100% manual camera, so electronics have to control certain mechanical functions from time to time. Good luck.
