bencoyote Posted March 29, 2016 Share #1 Â Posted March 29, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone done any tests comparing the battery life of the M240 and the M-P240? Â We know that when they introduced the M-P they said that it was faster and had more buffer capacity. To me this suggests a higher spec processor. Often times when you change processor versions, they are made with a different semiconductor fabrication process which uses power more efficiently. So when you go from 50nm to 32nm you aren't just squeezing more transistors into the same space, you are also saving power. Â Anyway, had my new M-P out this weekend and stayed out much longer than I intended and didn't have a charger or my spare battery and I shot the not quite fully charged battery until it was fully depleted. To my surprise that ended up being 675 shots over 3 days. I used no LV, only stopped to review my shots a couple of times, and 1s auto review (Just enough to know if I've totally screwed up the exposure) Â This 675 seems to be more than the 450-500 that I could get out of my M240. Is this real? Has anyone else noticed this or done a more careful evaluation?

FlashGordonPhotography Posted March 29, 2016 Share #2 Â Posted March 29, 2016 I have one of each. I see no real world difference when shooting both side by side. Â I get more than 450-500 out of my M240 and M-P. Closer to 700 shots from each with normal use. Â Gordon

Maybe I had battery which wasn't quite up to snuff anymore in my older M240. hmm maybe there is something to that "check battery age" warning after all -- still 500ish shots is loads. I guess the battery is the only part that I reasonably expect will wear out.  If I manage to wear out a shutter or any other part before the camera is entirely obsolete, I think I deserve some sort of prize or something. ;-) (Has anyone ever worn out a shutter on one of these M240's?) jmahto Posted March 29, 2016 Share #4  Posted March 29, 2016 I have had close to 800 shots in continuous mode for star trails (firing after each cycle of 20sec exposure+black frame) in my M240. Full charge to complete depletion. No preview. LCD completely off. I think that is maximum for me.  On a normal use I probably get around 600 before I re-charge (less than 25% left). I don't have preview on therefore I don't use LCD while shooting, however, I do scroll through the picture on LCD when I am resting.
