Does Firmware 1.204 only work on the new-gen sensor?

Sent my M9 to Wetzlar for repairs on the electronics and the circuit board.

Camera came back two later later with the original problems solved. The repair log also shows, however, that new firmware 1.204 has been installed. The log also shows "adjust sensor" as part of the work done.

Does this mean that my M9 has the new-gen sensor now? Or does the 1.204 FW also work on the original type sensor?

Another thing is, when I entered the service mode on the camera, the shutter count has been reset, which didn't happen during the multiple times in the past when I switched between 1.202 and 1.176.

Thanks!!

Any thoughts guys?  ;)

If it is true, as some on this forum have pointed out, that v. 1.204 CAN be used on the old sensor, then it would most likely be the case here.

I've not really noticed anything passing strange regarding the colours produced, although I do seem find that AWB leaning towards the cooler side on a few occasions. Could be me just seeing things because I believed they were there though...:p

Anyway, any input is welcome~ :)

As pointed out its hard to say but I would most certainly contact Leica who did the work and directly ask them which version sensor you have. That would certainly clear up the situation.

Thanks for the input folks!

Just put in an email to Leica Wetzlar...waiting for their reply now...

Also this is just a thought:

I entered the M9's service mode, and under "Hardware IDs", it shows the following:

CCD ID:15

CCD Board ID: 2

Control Brd ID: 2

M16C ID: 0

I wonder if there is any clue here? i.e. How does these compare with those in other M9s what are definitely having the old / new sensor?

All inputs welcome, as usual :)

Will also report back once Wetzlar replies my email.

So Leica Wetzlar has replied. They confirmed that my M9 is having the new sensor now.

so one personal mystery solved.... thought it doesn't seem to shed any light on the firmware-sensor type mystery in general...

I didn't request a sensor change...and I sent my camera in due to circuit board problems... wonder why they went the length to change the sensor for me...

Perhaps whatever caused the circuit board problem also damaged the old sensor?

My guess is although some users don't readily see corrosion or the beginning signs of it, they're trained to recognize it and probably did so.

That sounds reasonable.

I guess it's good that they do check it for you even if you haven't asked for that service. In any case this should put my mind better at ease (about the sensor issue) for quite a while in the near future :)
