Calgs Posted March 19, 2016 Share #1 Posted March 19, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've got a Leica M240 that's about 18 mos. old with various prime, electronically coded, Leica lenses. I've just noticed on some shooting today, that the raw files imported into Lightroom show the data with the aperture values about 1/3 stop off. When the ring is on 1.4, files come out with f1.7, f2 becomes f2.4 on the file etc. etc. I've tried this on my 28, 35, and 50mm lenses and consistently out. It's a curiosity, but sometimes when i look back on photos I like to see what the aperture values are, particularly on tight or portrait shots. I know that Leica M doesn't 'talk' to the aperture ring electronically, so is that the guessing system is out of calibration on my camera, or would this be consistent on all M240's? Thanks! Advertisement Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Hi Calgs, Take a look here Leica M240 Aperture reading wrong (in Lightroom). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jdlaing Posted March 19, 2016 Share #2 Posted March 19, 2016 The aperture recorded in Lightroom is only a guess as there is no electronic connection from lens to camera.
marchyman Posted March 19, 2016 Share #3 Posted March 19, 2016 There is a brightness sensor on the body of the camera. I have no idea as to the sensors "field of view" and how that matches the various lens. What the sensor sees may well be different than what the lens sees. Gregm61 Posted March 19, 2016 Share #4 Posted March 19, 2016 I've seen the same with my now 3 week-old M262. Shots showing Adobe Camera raw as f2.4 when I know darn good and well it was captured at f2 and in-between aperture numbers where I know I was using the full stop setting. Schrödinger's cat Posted March 19, 2016 Share #6 Posted March 19, 2016 This is a fairly unsophisticated method of determining aperture, should not be relied upon for critical information, and occurs across all M bodies. Your camera does not have an abnormal issue.
Exodies Posted March 19, 2016 Share #7 Posted March 19, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone noticed if the guessed aperture changes depending on metering system in use?
Herr Barnack Posted March 19, 2016 Share #8 Posted March 19, 2016 Same thing here. Lightroom thinks my Noctilux images are f/1.2 when they were actually shot at F/1.0; not a big deal IMHO.
