I find the second image degrading and should not be displayed in a forum

Can’t agree more. I don’t see any value in  making photo’s of picturesque poverty and misery for one’s photography hobby. If it has a journalistic function to draw attention to a social / political problem it’s something else, but LUF is not exactly the context which gives such photography a useful meaning. And starting on Calvin Klein in connection to these scenes is quite out of tune for me.

Regarding the two images of disadvantaged people, I am ambivalent about it. Saying it is degrading on this forum, but then 'accepting' that if it were in local press, it would be OK. As an image, I don't see what difference it makes who takes it. Ok for a journalist, not OK for  an 'ordinary' photographer! That does not work. I do wonder how many viewers see it in local press, V's how many see it on an International forum? Next question; does it matter how many see it? I don't know, but it does have some effect here because we are discussing it. Uncomfortable? So what. It is real.

This would/could be an interesting discussion, but I guess an image thread is not the right place to do that.

The second image has no place here.

Thank you erl and all the others for your comments on the two pictures. My comment on "cK" was certainly unnecessary. What I would like to say in general with pictures of this kind is that we must not look away, as many do, but must make this part of reality visible. Of course, with the aim of making things better in the future, especially for those affected. Frankfurt is actually a medium-sized city, but the homelessness, drug use and the associated crime are exorbitant. Society looks away, and politicians do as well.
