Uncoded M Lens not selectable manually

I have just tried my 135 Tele-Elmar v2 11 861 on my SL. The lens is of course uncoded, as there is no 6-bit code for it.

 

For uncoded lenses, I have the camera set to allow me to access the lens profiles menu via a long push on the LV button. This all works fine when my other uncoded lenses are mounted, such as my 75 Summilux.

 

I know that the Tele-Elmar 11 861 is in the lens profiles section on the camera.  However, when I mount this lens and push the LV button, I just get the setup menu with the 'Lens Profiles' part greyed out, so that I cannot go further (on other lenses a long push of the LV button brings up the lens list).

In other words, the SL behaves as if a coded lens is mounted.

 

I am using the genuine Leica M adapter-T with the camera.

 

So, am I doing something wrong, and has anyone else come across this behaviour with uncoded M lenses?  Could the adapter be 'reading' one of the screws on the mount of the 11 861 (one coincides with the code reader when the lens is mounted).  That may be the case as the lens is showing as a 90mm in the EXIF data.....

Yes, I've heard of this problem with certain lenses even on the digital Ms. It is as you say: the code reader is picking up a lens code because of the position of the flange mounting screws. There isn't much you can do except to have the lens properly coded so that the camera picks the right code on the SL because if it detects a code, it locks the configuration into it.

Yes, there are a couple of lenses like that. My 1972 Summilux 35 v2 is another. A lens code only gets you to the early ASPH version, on the M-P and M9 I can manually select a code for it, otherwise it has to work with the ASPH code or none. 

 

The SL doesn't have the ability to manually override a code at present; perhaps that will appear in a future firmware update.
