movie9 Posted March 2, 2016 Share #1  Posted March 2, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi friends. I recently purchased the above-referenced lens for wide angle long exposure photography. After several frames I noticed a heavy light source at the bottom right of each exposure. I've attached a sample of what my lens has exhibited. My camera is a Leica M240 with a Heliopan ND 3.0. If anyone has had a similar issue would appreciate you help in diagnosing the problem. Thanks much. Welcome, dear visitor! david strachan Posted March 2, 2016 Share #2 Â Posted March 2, 2016 Flare from the filter? You have tried the same images without a filter?
movie9 Posted March 2, 2016 Author Share #3 Â Posted March 2, 2016 Thanks David. Yes I have tried the same image without the filter and had no issues. The only difference was the exposure time. Â I have used the same filter on my 35mm summilux with no issues.
david strachan Posted March 2, 2016 Share #4  Posted March 2, 2016 You'll notice the bright part of the image is directly opposite the flare...so it IS the filter. A very common problem with filters particularly at night.  If you must get that image, and must use that filter, make sure to always use a lens hood which may help alleviate the problem. Changing the perspective view just a touch may also completely eliminate the flare. So chimp and shoot again, at a slightly different angle.  cheers Dave S
michaelwj Posted March 2, 2016 Share #5 Â Posted March 2, 2016 With a bit of searching you might find a thread in this forum about long exposures and light leaks (usually with heavier lenses like the 0.95/50, or with some ZM lenses). If I remember, the solution was to put a hair scrunchie (welcome back 1988) around the lens at the camera end to block the light. Â Â I don't remember this lens being effected though, so it might be just flare. Either way, it's a simple check. Â Cheers, Michael
helged Posted March 3, 2016 Share #6  Posted March 3, 2016 Looks like reflection; the mentioned light leak issue at long exposures is discussed and demonstrated here (particularly post 1 and 24).
