Northwest Wanderer Posted February 1, 2016 Share #1  Posted February 1, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Took this image of a small covey of California quail that visit my yard every morning. Over the years these quail have expanded their range from California north to Idaho and beyond. Always amusing to watch as they prefer to walk and run over taking flight.  VL 114   Welcome, dear visitor! platypus Posted February 2, 2016 Share #2 Â Posted February 2, 2016 Bill, nice shot! Our Australian quail are also reluctant flyers and seem to prefer to walk to their destination, they habitually follow each other in single file, the birds in your photo seem to be doing the same thing. I've never been able to discern whether they have a permanent leader-bird or take it in turns as it's impossible to tell them apart!
Hank Taylor Posted February 2, 2016 Share #3  Posted February 2, 2016 Very nice Bill the quail is one of my favorite hunting bids which  I  I use to enjoy hunting with by Britt  here in California.
Northwest Wanderer Posted February 2, 2016 Author Share #4  Posted February 2, 2016 Thank you Dee & Hank. These birds are enjoyable to watch. I find it difficult to get good images because of their quick head movement and the males feathers above the eye which always looks out of focus.
