Advertisement Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 Hi imnotaniceboy, Take a look here 25mm 1.4 vs canon 50 1.4 size. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
audidudi Posted June 1, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted June 1, 2007 I dont get it. if digilux 3/l1 has a smaller sensor size why LEICA is making such a big lens. Due to the smaller size of the 4/3 sensor as compared to a full-frame 35mm-sized sensor, the lenses used must be of proportionately higher resolution in order to achieve similar levels of detail at similar print sizes. As a rule (although there are exceptions, of course), higher resolution lenses also tend to be physically large. As such, it's unlikely that 4/3 lenses will ever be physically smaller than their 35mm-format counterparts of an equivalent focal length and speed... Guest scottag0 Posted June 1, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted June 1, 2007 Umm... So, what do you suggest we use instead?
jdlaing Posted June 1, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted June 1, 2007 I tried a small Coca Cola 6 ounce bottle but couldn't get just the right resolution. The mount is a hair off too.
audidudi Posted June 1, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted June 1, 2007 I tried a small Coca Cola 6 ounce bottle but couldn't get just the right resolution. Bottle? I was using a can ... no wonder I've been disappointed with the results!
spylaw4 Posted June 1, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted June 1, 2007 It's not a small Coca-Cola bottle - it's at least the litre size! 25/1.4 Well at least you get a lot of glass for your money! But hardly a discreet lens! Anyone try out the Sigma 24/1.8 at 1/2 the price?

zapp Posted June 4, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted June 4, 2007 4/3 lenses are optimized for digital use. Resolution will not increase lens size significantly or does anyone feel really bad with the 24/28 mm M lenses. The problem is to build a telecentric lens - a lnes where all rays hitting the sensor are parallel unlike the extreme angles you produce with classic lenses. To accomplish this the lens has to be longer and wider than a normal lens for te same format in film. We also expect low vignetting (wider front element) and minimum CA. 4/3 cameras are not smaller than 35mm based bodeis and 4/3 lenses are not smaller than 35mm lenses. The system itself produces better results per pixel - but the system is a small one (not many components) and the size of the 4/3 sensor is rather small as well - hard to cramp more pixels in it than in a larger format sensor. The 1.4/25 Leica lens appears to be a perfect 4/3 normal lens. We should not compare the 25 mm for 4/3 with a 24 mm for 35mm sensors - very different desgins. Btw talking Canon and size. The 1.2/85 is not large, it is huge and not usable for everyday shots. The Leica 25 is not small, but not really large.
MJLogan Posted June 9, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted June 9, 2007 It may be big, but it sure is fast/bright/sharp/accurate/with beautiful, creamy bokeh...
