G-Monster Posted January 3, 2016 Share #1  Posted January 3, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, i shot 2 starry photos when i was at camping.  When i went through the menu, i found no Infinity setting on the T with T lens (23mm).  I feel like these 2 photos were out-of-focus.  Does anyone know how to do it?  Thanks.  L1150973 by Geoff Kwok, on Flickr  L1150980 by Geoff Kwok, on Flickr
Advertisement Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 Hi G-Monster, Take a look here How to set focus distance to Infinity with T lens?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
can-photo Posted January 3, 2016 Share #2 Â Posted January 3, 2016 if you press the shutter half, and turn the lens ring it will do the manual focus, turn clockwise and you will get infinity focus manually
Guest Posted January 3, 2016 Share #3 Â Posted January 3, 2016 Also, you can change the focus mode from "Autofocus" to "Manual" in the menu system, and depending on the "Info" setting you choose to display on-screen (that's the bottom icon on the right side of the LCD), you can have a focus/DOF scale appear when you turn the ring. This only works when focus mode is set to "Manual". Â The above poster's advise tells how to manually focus while in "Auto focus" mode. Both ways should work for you. Â Good luck and Enjoy! G-Monster Posted January 3, 2016 Author Share #4  Posted January 3, 2016 Thx to theazimuth & DGP.  i tried it.  As it was no indicator on the screen, how do I know I'm in infinity?
JPP1 Posted January 3, 2016 Share #5 Â Posted January 3, 2016 Thx to theazimuth & DGP. i tried it. As it was no indicator on the screen, how do I know I'm in infinity? Tap the info icon on the screen until the 2nd dot is selected. This is the only mode with a DOF scale.
gbealnz Posted January 3, 2016 Share #6 Â Posted January 3, 2016 Nice. Orion, with Sirius the brightest star. Turn the manual focus ring, and use the 6x setting for viewing the LCD, and use Sirius as it's super bright. Gary
bencoyote Posted January 4, 2016 Share #7  Posted January 4, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Tap the info icon on the screen until the 2nd dot is selected. This is the only mode with a DOF scale.  That is one of my biggest complaints about the T interface.  I want to be able to bring up both the histogram and the focus scale both.  I think each one of those elements should be a toggle as opposed to cycling through each one individually by hitting info.  What I would like is for the info button to bring up all the visual elements and then allow me to select them to toggle them on and off.   There are also other times when you were using auto focus when you would like to be able to view the focus scale one example is when you're using program shift.
G-Monster Posted January 4, 2016 Author Share #8 Â Posted January 4, 2016 Thank you very much to all of you. Â Finally, i knew how to do it. Â Hopefully, i will be able to take better starry night photo next time. Â
bencoyote Posted January 5, 2016 Share #9  Posted January 5, 2016 Personally after trying a bit, I found that I liked the star shots from the 11-23mm nearer the 11mm FD where you get f/3.5 rather than with the 23mm.  400/16 is about 25s and that gives some of those cool starfield shots with some horizon. I don't remember having to push the ISO too hard to make this work.  I seem to remember discovering that even with the 2.0 the 23mm didn't result in as striking images. 400/35 is about 10s and even though you have an aperture which is 1 2/3 stops wider it ends up being a wash because 25 is 2.5x longer than 10.  Your milage may vary and it very likely could be a matter of taste but I remember being surprised by this when I took a ton of equipment to the desert just to try stuff out before I took it on a trip.

aseancat Posted February 15, 2016 Share #11  Posted February 15, 2016 i can't seem to get this to work; have 1.5 firmware installed @ leica shop with a new T, 11-23  if you press the shutter half, and turn the lens ring it will do the manual focus, turn clockwise and you will get infinity focus manually   there is no indication that the lens focus manually, no DOF scale, no 3x/6x magnification.  Tap the info icon on the screen until the 2nd dot is selected. This is the only mode with a DOF scale.  in AF-s mode, no DOF scale, no 3x/6x magnification either.  3x/6x magnification and DOF scale only available when set to MF focus mode, but not if set AFs mode; is this how it should be? sere Posted March 18 Share #13  Posted March 18 Hello everybody, I found out this topic while trying to figure out how to set focus to infinity on my CL with the 23mm f2 lens. I can't find the DoF scale anywhere and I am quote frustrate. Of course I am in MF, but in the quick menu I can't find the "info" that should make appear the DoF scale. Can anybody help me? I will leave tomorrow for Morocco and I would like to shoot some starry sky picture.  Thank you so much
KitW Posted March 18 Share #14 Â Posted March 18 I believe the DOF scale doesn't exist on the CL. You can use focus peaking to help. Are you hoping to photograph just stars or do you want to focus short of infinity to get the maximum depth of field? If the former, I would use autofocus and either focus on a star or on a distant bit of horizon. I find this to be more accurate than manual focus. Field focusing is more likely to lock onto a star than spot focusing.
