My, doesn't the grip improve the handling of the camera? I'm also pretty pleased with the EVF. I think it will be incredibly useful. I can't wait to try it with the 90 macro-elmar. bocaburger Posted January 7, 2016 Share #23 Posted January 7, 2016 Here's my story about the EVF: I bought one to help focus 90mm in low light. It worked but is very annoying - need to unmount it before bagging the camera. I then bought a 21mm. Focus with the optical RF, frame with the EVF and the artificial horizon. It is still very annoying but I now love the little bastard darling. Two reasons - I can't get used to how wide 21mm is so RF frame guessing won't work and getting the camera level makes a world of difference to the feel of the picture. So, with the right inducements the EVF is wonderful; make sure you have sufficient reason to want it to overcome the usability bump. I have no need to unmount my EVF before bagging the camera. If I did, it would be the bag I would find annoying, not the EVF. And the EVF is not the only alternative to "RF frame guessing" with a 21. An optical finder does that, and the frame lines also work well as leveling references. Where the EVF shines with wideangle lenses is if you carry several of them there's no need to carry a finder for each, nor waste time changing finders every time you change lenses. (I have a 21-24-28 finder but it's of no help when I have 12, 15 and 21mm lenses with me...in fact TTBOMK there is no multi-finder offering that combo). Perhaps the most-used advantage to me of the EVF in my travels is being able to slip an OUFRO extension tube behind (or an adapted Nikon 2-element close-up filter in front of) a 50, 90 or 135 to get close detail shots which in the past meant heavy cropping.
