EdwardM Posted December 24, 2015 Share #1 Posted December 24, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Gents, I just aquried brand new M-E for decent price and thinking about upgrading it to M-9P. There are row options - just to change the glass for sapphire glass or change both plates and glass. What would you do? I'm sure about glass as I don't want glass to be scratched and don't like foils on the glass, but I doubt about bottom and top plates. The reason I want to change plates is to change after the black leather for red color leather and make this camera a piece of fun.
Advertisement Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 Hi EdwardM, Take a look here Would you upgrade M-E to M9-P?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pico Posted December 24, 2015 Share #2 Posted December 24, 2015 Whatever upgrades you choose will, of course, not likely improve your photography or the value of the camera so I assume you are concerned about what, prestige? .
Jeff S Posted December 24, 2015 Share #3 Posted December 24, 2015 The M9-P also has a frame preview lever and USB port. One can change leathers on any M. Or change the dot color. Or.... Jeff
pico Posted December 24, 2015 Share #4 Posted December 24, 2015 The M9-P also has a frame preview lever and USB port. [...] So does the M9, for all the good it does.
EdwardM Posted December 24, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted December 24, 2015 The only concern is resale value - while the plates will be changed for black, the hot shoe would be the same with the M-E SERIAL number. At the end of the day it will be M-E With sapphire glass and black plates. Period. I wanted to change the leather for red or burgundy or maybe navy blue. All these colors doesn't match with the charcoal plates of M-E. That's the reason. But now I see that russian service doesn't have the leather in stock for a la crate for M9/ME
EdwardM Posted December 24, 2015 Author Share #6 Posted December 24, 2015 Would appreciate if somebody can post here the M9P a la carte with the red color leather and black plates. Can't find the proper example on Internet .

EdwardM Posted December 24, 2015 Author Share #9 Posted December 24, 2015 Jeff, thank you! But I have M240-P already. I like the feel of M9 - it's sort of nostalgia and paranoia about CCD sensor which is outdated and has the risk to be corroded. I don't need this M-E:) I want it and I bought it for 3.850 USD brand new. For a digital camera? In that case, buy the cheapest M, in good condition, you can find. My point is that your M-E won't hold that value no matter what you do....so just do what makes you happy...nobody else cares (and maybe negatively since tastes differ). Adrian Lord Posted December 24, 2015 Share #12 Posted December 24, 2015 No point in "upgrading" as far as I can see. It is simply not an actual upgrade.

asiafish Posted December 25, 2015 Share #15 Posted December 25, 2015 the only thing worth changing on the M-E in my opinion is to the sapphire glass, but probably not worth the price they charge. Probably cheaper to have a cracked original screen replaced, maybe even more than once.
Mark Pope Posted December 25, 2015 Share #16 Posted December 25, 2015 The M9-P also has a frame preview lever and USB port. One can change leathers on any M. Or change the dot color. Or.... Jeff I have never used the USB port on any digital camera that I have owned. The M9-P doesn't have a dot. The frame preview lever is handy, but I could live without it. Yep, I'm aware of 'features', and don't use a port either, but was merely clarifying for the OP since he stated that he wants to upgrade to the M9-P, which he wouldn't be doing in entirety.....and pointing out that some things he wants to do could apply to any camera, e.g., changing leathers. sblutter Posted December 25, 2015 Share #19 Posted December 25, 2015 I have both - am more comfortable in the field with the P due to the sapphire. I use the lever rarely and the USB port never The M-E is a back-up that I exercise reegularly. Love these camera's files
darylgo Posted December 25, 2015 Share #20 Posted December 25, 2015 Didn't realize Leica would transform an M-E to M9-P, different internals and externals for port and lever. The M-E look has grown on me over time, the differentiating gray and a shutter dial/release in silver, it is easier to see. Take a look at what this guy did with his M-E. Welcome, dear visitor!
