On the subject of money - and availability, I can get a pretty good deal on the 75mm Color Heliar and the Norkton. I still really want the new 28mm - and like most people think it will be on the camera most of the time. Would I be making a mistake to take these instead of the 90mm. They are In Stock at B&H, black or silver. The 50 Cron is a very good lens. If your looking for something a little less expensive and a little more compact then the 50 Elmar f/2.8. At B&H either are 999 and also In Stock and at Adorama the black is 999 and silver is 895. They are also listed as In Stock at Adorama but I'd call first to see if they really are. In Canada, we also have acccess to one of the manufacturers who made some of Leica's lenses for Leica. They notably made the 50mm f1.0 for leica, as well as the 90mm f2. the company recently shut down, and sold their remaining stock of lenses across the country and some of those lenses are available. The 90mm f2 is available to me for about $1195US. I'm thinking about that one tonight. Do you agree about the 50mm f2 - as one of the best? I now have the newest version with the built in hood. I like it a lot and use it the most on both the M8 and my old M3. I'll wait for the 28mm, but it seems dumb to buy a camera body and just stare at it on the desk for a few months. My dealer has 28mm's on back order from October at this point, as well as a bunch from over the past few months too. He has received a grand total of 6 out of almost 20 that he ordered. Joe Mondello Posted June 1, 2007 Share #30 Posted June 1, 2007 Congrats on the new M8, I only have experience with older 50/2 Summicron DRs but my understanding is that they have only gotten better, sharper over the years (the design seemingly hasn't changed all that much -- see this chart . . . http://members.aol.com/dcolucci/summicron.htm ) and my 1963 is one sharp lens even wide open. I started with the 28/ f2.8 asph as well (seems as I was lucky, since I got both, the M8 and the 28 within one week in January). Meanwhile, my lens set up includes 7, of which 4 Leica and 3CV. mreddington Posted June 1, 2007 Share #32 Posted June 1, 2007 Congratulations! When I bought my M8 the dealer had only few lenses and I opted for the 35/2 Asph. At first I found the FoV a bit boring but in the meantime it has become my most used lens. I will get the 28/2.8 when they become available. I also bought the CV15 and CV75, excellent lenses, and the Zeiss Planar 50/2, which is amazingly sharp. Have fun and watch out, lens addiction is a real danger!
