First roll of film in 10 years...

In comparison with the thread title, I only had a gap of five years in between rolls of film - but something like a twenty year hiatus in developing my own film.  Luckily I had stored the changing bag, tanks, measures etc etc in the loft just in case...  Starting out with a roll of Kentmere 100, a shot of St Michael's Mount in Cornwall (M7, ZM Biogon 35mm f2). Nowadays for ISO 100 I favour Acros 100.

Hi Adam, thank you for writing back. No need to worrry, I didn't take it personally about Superia. I may shoot mainly Fuji but I'm always interested in trying new emulsions and fully respect other people's choices in this respect. In fact as a result of your regular use of Ektar and the results you've posted I will be trying that in the near future in both 135 and 120.

Philip -

I appreciate what you have said. And I recognize the superia (which is one of a number of film stocks that Shiva has posted photos of on this forum over the past few months) very much arguably not "cheap drug store" film; so no disrespect to you and your photography, or anyone else for that matter. And my views on film stocks and the use thereof should obviously not in any way be translated into any kind of personal offense on anyone.

I will emphasize again, though, that my comments above should really be taken by the OP in the larger context of the great many very positive and encouraging comments that I have made to him on his ascending glide path back to film. It is not worth the time to dig them up and post them here, but they are there. It is a shame that broader communication flows are not pieced together more often.

And no need to apologize for the comment about Ektar. It is your opinion and you are entitled to it. I am most certainly not offended.

Yes I'd be obliged if you did in fact leave me alone. I don't belong to this forum for such passive aggression. Thanks. Ps. Post photos and not shit about film stock. Apparently having a different opinion here makes you the back one.

You should be reminded that this is the technical section of the forum, and it wouldn't be doing its job if a questionable idea (as perceived by another forum member) is allowed to stand and an alternative or better idea is censored by the OP. These threads are not to have your opinion verified unquestioningly, but have the topic and it's subsequent strands discussed. If you want praise alone why not post your pictures in the Photo Forum instead (there is very little debate in the PF, so everything is 'awesome' and should keep you happy) and allow an uncensored discussion to proceed around technical matters here?

Like I said more than once, if you don't have any first hand experience...

im done with this dumb conversation...have a good day.

You may have overlooked the fact that I can turn my scanner down to make 6mb scans, and then turn it up to make 34mb scans, so I can see the difference in quality. You don't need to own a Pakon scanner to understand it's specifications.

I'm happy to receive technical info but to say a pro film is better than non pro film is not such advice. I already know that as do most. Perhaps you should have read all the comments before chipping in. No one wants praise alone... We aren't children.

What makes you think I haven't read all the comments? A sense of knowing everything? You are behaving like a child. This sweeping self satisfied attitude that a forum contributor can't offer a better alternative to people who may naively think they can get away with your ideals is arrogant at best. If photographers use film they are investing a lot of time into their craft, and possibly going on long and expensive trips from simple days out to holidays without the option of reviewing their decisions on the spot. So if you like cheap film so be it, but try and show some compassion for photographers who may be taken in by your personal likes against what could be called an 'industry standard' that wouldnt f'up their special event, day out,or holiday. Stop trying to censor opinion.

I think reply #67 sums up how I feel rather well... I guess this is the danger with forums, too many armchair photographers, concerned only about equipment and charts. I'm done and request this thread be closed.

Jesus wept, have you thought about fronting a TV appeal to help save all the photographers taken in by the OP?

Gently, gently, please fellow film buffs. I haven't read the entire thread but am just responding to a report that courtesy towards each other may be slipping. My brief read of recent posts would support the observation so please tidy up the attitude towards each other. We all have varied preferences about film. So be it. Probably nobody would agree with mine but it matters not.

I never would have expected people to feel so bitter and twisted about the film someone else uses. I guess I learned something new over the last few days.

Anybody else here actually enjoy taking photo's with whatever equipment and consumables they happen to have?

I do.

I like Portra and Cinestill, but I also like Kodak UltraMax and Fuji X-tra Superia.

I have an M6 + Summarits but also love my Pentax K1000 and my Ultra Wide and Slim!

You are a little late the party on this one my friend. Better luck next time. Perhaps heed the advice of the mods above. #unhelpfulatbest

To clarify for you, my comment wasn't a dig.  Neither was it meant to be helpful.  Work it out.

Personally, I couldn't give a stuff what film you or anyone else uses as long it gets used and something of it is posted on this forum to back all the hot air up.
