sblitz Posted December 21, 2015 Share #1 Posted December 21, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Q manual says it works on TTL mode with flash units -- but the SF24D does not communicate with Q when it is on TTL mode, only A mode. Is there something I am doing wrong or is this just a function of older flash models. If so, what newer one(s) do work with the Q in TTL mode? pico Posted December 21, 2015 Share #2 Posted December 21, 2015 (edited) Q manual says it works on TTL mode with flash units -- but the SF24D does not communicate with Q when it is on TTL mode, only A mode. Is there something I am doing wrong or is this just a function of older flash models. If so, what newer one(s) do work with the Q in TTL mode? That seems backwards. To my understanding, A-mode is where the flash duration is determined by an auto thyristor on the front of the flash. The only information available from the camera is ISO. Aperture is not available on the M, so it is set manually on the flash. That's my understanding and in my experience with the M9 Auto is generally better than TTL. i hope someone corrects me if I am wrong. sblitz Posted December 21, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted December 21, 2015 In TTL I believe there is more info than ISO. Flash unit in TTL reads light coming through lens not just the auto thrystor and adjusts accordingly. All at the speed of light. Or so I have read
@McLeica Posted December 21, 2015 Share #4 Posted December 21, 2015 I've had this problem. No TTL just the blinking A when in TTL mode.
sblitz Posted December 21, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted December 21, 2015 correct, so I need to use sf24d in A mode only on the Q. Tried firing when the flash was in TTL mode and it didn't go off. I am not a big flash user and hate to have to buy a new one for the Q, even though the SF24D is hardly a stellar flash.
P598 Posted December 19, 2019 Share #6 Posted December 19, 2019 I bought a 24D flash secondhand and have used it quite happily for about three months by with an M240 and a Q. I have had to buy a second set of batteries within this time and now after a week my recycle time has gone down to 30 seconds and sometimes doesn't fire at all. Is there something wrong with the flash? I am a bit loathe just to bin it because it is very light and extremely convenient and I have only just got used to it... jaapv Posted December 19, 2019 Share #7 Posted December 19, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Most likely something is wrong with the batteries. For instance old stock. Note that the flash may not work (properly) with rechargeable batteries.
P598 Posted December 19, 2019 Share #8 Posted December 19, 2019 Thank you for your reply. Yes, that may be the case although the first set I got didn’t last long either, and the most recent set were bought from a large retailer. Is there a reason why the flash might fail otherwise? (I tried to get in touch with Leica in Germany but I only got an irritable request to call back after the lady’s lunch hour :)) Would it be a better bet to buy a Metz (I only use my flash in manual) for around 100 euros which takes rechargeable batteries? I paid 140 for the flash and have already spent 60 euros on the batteries....
