AlanJW Posted December 11, 2015 Share #1 Posted December 11, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) My instincts re the SL when it was announced were not to buy, as I thought it was superfluous for me. I have a MP240 which is my primary camera, a Q for fooling around, and a M 246. All the reviews here about the ease of using M lenses on the SL weakened me. I also realized that while I really like the results from the M246, I wasn't using it enough, with only a few hundred frames since the Spring. So I concluded that it was the Monochrom that was superfluous and when my dealer offered me a very attractive trade in (he said he had a customer in mind for it), I gave the go ahead to order one for me. It is my nearly 70 year old eyes that have had many medical problems over the years that led me -- reluctantly -- to the EVF and to an autofocus lens. The Q was the stepping stone in the process; I realized that an EVF could be quite good. Having an SL also meant that might eventually sell my D800e, but only after the longer SL zoom is released. Leica should send a small commission to those of you who have reviewed, described, and explained what the SL can do and I thank you too; reading through these threads has been a great primer. Now I am looking forward to starting anew with a new system.

IkarusJohn Posted December 11, 2015 Share #2 Posted December 11, 2015 You can buy me a coffee, Al. Be warned, though; the SL with 24-90 is BIG. With other lenses, not so much - even with the APO 180 it's not so bad ...

With other lenses, not so much - even with the APO 180 it's not so bad ... I did not say I'd not buy another camera. I know myself too well ever to say that. That was yours. In fact if a new M comes out this year, I will be tempted by that also.

Leicaiste Posted December 12, 2015 Share #8 Posted December 12, 2015 Isn't the 50 Summilux likely to be available quite soon? It sounds like it will be a stunner. Not before the end of 2016. And it it may not be stabilized.

AlanJW Posted December 12, 2015 Author Share #10 Posted December 12, 2015 Hi there Alan I'll have a beer thanks i hope you enjoy it (I'm sure you will) the EVF is much better than the Q) Thats good to hear Jono. the first time I picked up a Q and looked into the VF I turned it around to look for the front VF window because it looked so realistic. I literally could not believe it was not an optical finder. If the SL is even better I am going to be very pleased indeed.
