SuperSixONE Posted December 11, 2015 Share #1 Posted December 11, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) So I started a thread about the best lens for $1500 a few days ago and decided to get a pre-asph Summicron, type 3 with the 0.7m min. focusing distance. I noticed that on my of 'Cron 40/2 there was a very sharp second image when focusing (the image that you have to line up), and with this, it's very faint and hard to see. Is this just how the lens is, or should I get it calibrated? Thanks
Advertisement Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Hi SuperSixONE, Take a look here Soft Second Rangefinder image?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
kismetsky Posted December 13, 2015 Share #2 Posted December 13, 2015 The second image comes from the rangefinder patch window. It shouldn't be affected by which lens you have mounted at all. You can check if the patch window is dirty/oily or if you're inadvertently covering it. Otherwise maybe something was knocked askew in the rangefinder itself. I have seen the frame lines act a bit off if the lens doesn't trigger the correct set and is in between frame lines - you get partial lines or multiple sets win some faded. arno_nyhm Posted December 15, 2015 Share #3 Posted December 15, 2015 maybe you better clean the second rangefinderwindow. that should get you a contrasty second image.
adan Posted December 15, 2015 Share #4 Posted December 15, 2015 Agree - a fingerprint on the little RF window will "soften" the image considerably!!
Michael Geschlecht Posted December 15, 2015 Share #5 Posted December 15, 2015 Hello ONE, Welcome to the Forum. Is it possible that you are holding/focusing the new lens in a different manner than you have been holding/focusing the other lens? If you hold your left hand under the lens & curl that hand around under the lens to hold & focus it, making sure you do not block/interfere with the small rangefinder window. Or any other window. While you are simultaneously holding the camera & activating the shutter release with your right hand. You might find that the rangefinder patch's visibility will be the same with both (all) lenses. Best Regards, Michael
