Whoo! - the bokeh gets a bit - energetic - wide open. E.g. the shots of the house with white window frames as OOF background in (post 21, second shot; post 22, first shot; post 23, last shot).

But about the norm for a compact fast double-gauss 35 - the 35 Summilux/Summicron non-ASPHs are similar.

Some nice examples over at map camera ( of their limited silver finish REIROAL version of the lens )

Use google chrome if you want a mind wrestling auto translation:

"REIROAL M35mm F1.4 MC was a lens that combines the contrast of the aberration and the modern lens of old lens.. "

Not feelin' the love for US$1200 +.

A CV 1,4/35 is pretty damn tiny and 1/2 the price.

That's okay - the MS lens is a quirky thing, designed following one mans unique ideas and produced in tiny volumes : the price vs value reflects that.

Stopped down it looks just like any other modern lens ; but opening up sees its character alter dramatically ( which was the main thing I was trying to show with these postings )

Compared with the 35/1.4 Voigtländer, the MS lens also has negligible distortion. Not sure how the central sharpness compares.

It would be interesting to run the 35mm Summilux pre-ASPH against the VC 35/1.4 and the MS lens - all wide open on the same scenes.

Just picked it up yesterday locally in Tokyo @ Map Camera (awesome store).

It's a pretty neat lens, shot it on my M240.. here's a few shots.

They have all been post processed a bit in terms of contrast/shadows/highlights/crop/vignette.
