Peter H Posted November 25, 2015 Share #21  Posted November 25, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've never had to do the "popping battery out" business on *any* camera, Leicas included. I have had to do repeated resets on all of them except the SL, so far. Different experiences. I did reset the SL completely after I took it out of the box and fitted the battery; I do that with every camera and computer...  The user setting naming stuff is quirky for sure. Why so few characters? But so far I've only created one profile—named RLens—and that worked fine. I'll name the next one "SLLns" as it will be for setups with the 24-90, where I'm pretty sure I'll want different button/favorites menu assignments for OIS and AF usage.  I try to keep it simple.   I'm not qualified to comment on the SL, not having used one.  I just felt it wasn't good form to jump on Wilson of all people for pointing out something that wasn't quite as it should be in a Leica camera as though he were the sort of person to make a fuss about nothing, or not understand how these things work, or not take care to find out. I can't imagine a more thorough or meticulous person in this regard, or one less prone to unwarranted praise or criticism.  And for what it's worth, I've never had an equivalent problem in any of the very many digital cameras, Leica or otherwise, that I've used over the years.
Advertisement Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 Hi Peter H, Take a look here Button customisation not working as expected. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ramarren Posted November 25, 2015 Share #22  Posted November 25, 2015 It's not my intent to "jump on" anyone. It's just a camera. But it does seem to me that something as minor as a settings corruption problem, fixed by a reset, that happened once is an awfully trivial thing that seems to get belabored over much in these discussions. If the camera proves to have consistent or repeated issues like this, then I'd call it a problem ... most likely with the specific camera.  G

He, like you, has paid for the camera. Surely he's entitled to speak up when something doesn't work as he  feels it ought, just as he and everyone is entitled to praise the things they like about it. wlaidlaw Posted November 25, 2015 Author Share #24  Posted November 25, 2015 In fact on another thread I have said how impressed I am with the SL and 24-90 lens. There is an old saying "the devil is in the details". Every one of my M digitals has had to go back to Leica for major work or replacement. M8 - complete new electronic suite and sensor for multiple faults; M9 - new electronic suite to sort flash not working plus freezing and then new sensor, which needs doing again; M240 in for lug tightening, faulty repair meaning it took videos constantly, replaced with new camera and it still frequently freezes when using EVF and/or bracketing. I have been using Leica's since the 1950's, have taken many hundreds of rolls of film and well over 100,000 digital images. I don't envisage using much else for the rest of my photographic life but I do wish they would sort out the details and make their electronic systems more robust, self correcting/resetting and generally bullet-proof.  Wilson
