Indeed. I agree entirely with your philosophy about OS upgrading.

But this should not let Leica off the hook for allowing "us" to figure out what works and what doesn't; when a simple test with a developer's beta release is all that is required. Seriously, how much time and effort would that take? And how much goodwill/press might it generate?

I agree about the camera manufacturer having the responsibility to inform users about a potential issue ahead.

I do not know how this was handled in the case of Lr + OS X El Camino.

I have read a recent info/ warning from Adobe though where (finally ?) it was warned about the potential loss of tethering when using Lr + El Camino.

My point about this is that in the digital age we users did get the responsibly to inform ourselves about changes and possible issues with the tools we use - read camera gear, software, computers, …

It can be a bit much and if it is too much for some, there is always the possibility of hiring a professional to take over that work.

Btw - a good way (THE ONLY WAY) of doing any update (be it a full blown OS update or just an incremental update on the most important software we use or firmware updates is to ALWAYS first create a system backup that will allow seamless roll back.

On Mac OS X I do full SuperDuper backups on external drives that allow exactly that (these are bootable system drive clones).

A rollback after wards usually doesn't take longer than 1 hour and can often be accomplished by seamlessly continuing work running from that external drive and scheduling the full rollback during night hours.
