Paul Hart Posted May 29, 2007 Share #1 Posted May 29, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) My question is simple: since the M8 was launched, have there been any changes to it apart from firmware updates? If so, can anyone say what they are? Thanks.

This nailed a tendency to see streaks from bright light sources in the frame. Leica did not say what exactly was changed, but it seems to be a simple repair or replacement of a single component on one circuit board. Since that time it seems that all problems are being handled with firmware upgrades, which of course apply to all cameras shipped. scott
EricC Posted May 29, 2007 Share #3 Posted May 29, 2007 Hi Paul, As Scott says, the only change apart from the Firmware Update's, was to the initial batch of M8's, which had to go back to Solms for a Hardware Fix to resolve the streaking problem. Apparently this was a component change on one of the circuit boards. Eric
marknorton Posted May 29, 2007 Share #4 Posted May 29, 2007 From what we know, this one... but the exact change is a mystery. But notice the board is labelled 06/02, which might mean Feb 06; if so, it suggests this board has not been changed due to the fix. This was a post-fix camera. For all we know, it might have been one of those silly mistakes like mixing up inches and cm sending spacecraft off course. Maybe a component was fitted back to front or incorrect value or something. The board is also marked ROHS which indicates it it ROHS compliant (Reduction of Hazardous Substances), lead-free solder and so on.
