Charger questions

I saw the SL at the Leica store but while there I forgot to take a close look at the charger.

Is the SL's charger more like the T's charger or the M's charger?

When I say M like, I mean:

Does it have a 12v input?

Does it take the standard sideways 8 AC power cable?

Or does it use AC plug adapter plates like the T?

wouldn't have called it huge ..... slightly bigger than the T charger ...... but the batteries are much bigger (but surprisingly light)........

best used with an apple plug adapter which keeps the whole lot quite compact ...

Its giant, way bigger than necessary and requires a cable. No 12v input

Unfortunately Leica has never been good at making chargers that are portable.

OK so half right.

But damn :-(

I find for backpacking and extreme field use I really need either 12v or USB (preferred).

in the old days when USB was 250mW there was an excuse for these external chargers not using it. However now that cell phones have pushed USB is to around 12W it can charge bigger camera batteries. Now with USB-C it can provide up to 100W and there is no excuse.

Anyway, I hope Leica will address this problem with an accessory for DC charging.

One day, camera makers and the rest will get the message - make everything USB charged, with the ability to charge in camera.  Then all I need is a couple of Apple chargers and I can charge everything.  Dragging around a nest of chargers is a complete turn off.

and cables which are as large as the charger. Yes I use the Apple plug, but it doesn't always work in hotels.

Integrated plugs would be nice, although I understand its an international product...but Sony doesn't have issues keeping chargers extremely compact and with built in plugs for US customers.

except that they don't ship cameras with chargers anymore.....that usb charging cable that comes with the A7 series is a joke....

but i agree, large chargers with external cables are a total pain....i would much prefer to have a sony/canon style charger with built in plug and use an adapter for travel....

but in all fairness the SL battery looks to be almost twice the size of the sony A7 series batteries...

i remember having chargers with slide in plugs for travel....easy and very practical....

I would. Its the largest charger I have for any of my cameras. Could be 30% smaller.

therein lies the issue ....... I have so many of the damn things I can't remember which battery goes in which......

a universal standard voltage and one charger please .... with separate caddies that the batteries fit in so they can all go in the same one .....

this has been done before by independent suppliers ...... not that complicated ....
