IkarusJohn Posted November 11, 2015 Share #1 Posted November 11, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Seriously? Doesn't the issue of a Special Edition usually mean that Leica is about to issue a new model? Can't imagine it. Maybe a boxed set of 35 & 50 Noctiluxes? Noctilae? Pens, a cigarette lighter and a key ring? Seriously?

pico Posted November 11, 2015 Share #3 Posted November 11, 2015 And what's with making the lens markings less visible? Is Leica saying they are not necessary? .
IkarusJohn Posted November 11, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted November 11, 2015 Who smokes here? The reason I ask is that when I was a student, and even when I practised in London (late 1980s), people smoked in the office, meetings - hell, we even smoked in the Law Library. Now, we never see it. Small groups huddled around the corners of some buildings, but otherwise I never see smoking at all.
dupiastko Posted November 11, 2015 Share #5 Posted November 11, 2015 Sorry, but they make complete idiots of themselves. Stop doing this BS, bring something people are REALLY waiting for, instead of a lighter for $1000. What a bunch of BS. Incredible, this company is losing it every day

earleygallery Posted November 11, 2015 Share #8 Posted November 11, 2015 The lighter is inspired - ideal for burning ones money when one has nothing else left to waste it on.
Winedemonium Posted November 11, 2015 Share #9 Posted November 11, 2015 And what's with making the lens markings less visible? Is Leica saying they are not necessary? . My first thought too. My heart sank when I saw this announcement. Especially the language - total hyperbole, even for Leica.
FrozenInTime Posted November 11, 2015 Share #10 Posted November 11, 2015 "It's the weird colour scheme that freaks me. Every time you try to operate one of these weird black controls, which are labeled in black on a black background, a small black light lights up black to let you know you've done it." michaelwj Posted November 11, 2015 Share #11 Posted November 11, 2015 And what's with making the lens markings less visible? Is Leica saying they are not necessary? . Is it because at 0.95 the depth of field scale is useless anyway, so why include it? Once you've gone that far, what's the distance scale for, zone focusing at 0.95? Get rid of that too. Why bother with 1.4 and smaller apertures, surely you'd use you 1.4/50 asph for that - which should only have 1.4 in white, because from 2.0 onward you should be using your 2.0/50 APO anyway. Now that I think about it, why bother with aperture blades? Just fix it at 0.95. That is what they're saying. Ridiculous. Cheers, Michael

Manoleica Posted November 11, 2015 Share #13 Posted November 11, 2015 IMHO - I think someone at Leica has started "smoking" :: Special Edition lenses, cameras Ok.. Cig Lighters and the other $ store cr*p - forget it. The money would be better spent on sorting the bugs on the new products.. "Got a light boy" .. pop Posted November 11, 2015 Share #14 Posted November 11, 2015 It's not exactly news that Dupont makes lighters, and not cheap ones. It's only this particular edition that's new. They are perfectly suited for lighting cigars without burning your fingers or for elegantly offerering a light to someone else. There must be more than a few members here who appreciate a fine cigar now and then, and not cheap ones, either. I never used to smoke cigars and I have stopped smoking altogether. My Dupont was a gift from a non smoker who had inherited it. I stopped using it after a while because it was difficult to find fitting gas canisters. M9reno Posted November 11, 2015 Share #15 Posted November 11, 2015 Wow, this is the best idea Leica have had since the Lenny Kravitz edition, and here they've gone even further down the function-follows-form road. Was the new CEO not meant to bring change in this respect? This is so desperate and pretentious... it makes the Hassleblad Lunar look seriously Puritan. wattsy Posted November 11, 2015 Share #16 Posted November 11, 2015 There is a special BLACK PAINT edition of the Noctilux f0.95... And it's GORGEOUS! If you are referring to the new edition it is black anodised aluminium with some glossy components and knurling meant to echo the Dupont pens in the collection. I don't see any mention of black paint which I believe would require a brass bodied version of this lens.
Manoleica Posted November 11, 2015 Share #17 Posted November 11, 2015 Someone at Leica probably got a nice new corner office for thinking up and bringing to market these overpriced trinkets.. Eventually they will be offered as freebies with every Special Edition camera & lens combo.. To the new CEO, what a wise decision to include these trinkets on the website!!!...I think I will give up Christmas this year and buy myself a new pen!!!.... earleygallery Posted November 11, 2015 Share #18 Posted November 11, 2015 Now that I think about it, why bother with aperture blades? Just fix it at 0.95. That is what they're saying. I've said the same before, ditch the aperture blades - who buys a Noctilux to use it at f8?!! And the DOF and focus scales aren't important to use it on an SL. semi-ambivalent Posted November 11, 2015 Share #19 Posted November 11, 2015 My first thought too. My heart sank when I saw this announcement. Especially the language - total hyperbole, even for Leica. Besides, in dim lighting every globe-trotting photojournalist would rather use a satin chrome Zippo to illuminate the Noctilux's aperture ring. Or an Imco. I-M (as in Monster)-C-O. Exodies Posted November 11, 2015 Share #20 Posted November 11, 2015 What lifestyle support company could survive without a monthly "NEW!" announcement. Give them a break, guys. Their fashion designers and internet presence consultants are on a retainer. You have your wonderful toys; let others feel a part of this gigantic mass deception. There's room for us all. Peace. Out.
