This was taken in a small town in Ecuador as a little girl was 'waiting out a rainstorm'. I left the watermark on the negative along with a bit of dust...and turned it to sepia instead of BW as it just looked better in Sepia. Shot with a M3, Summicron 50mm with Trix400

You are right in that it 'begs' cleaning, so maybe I met my mark if the intent was to create an old photo....lost and shoved in the back of some dresser drawer in South America for some 50 years, as the person in the photo in later years would pull it out once in awhile to recall her youth.

Either way, it makes for an interesting twist on what is usually looked at.

I disagree with Stuart quite forcefully here.  The distress gives the shot a certain edge that could be cool.  I once heard of a famous current photographer who deliberately beat up his negatives in order to make them look somewhat like this.  Having said this, I do think it could use a little more contrast, including blacker blacks and brighter highlights.

Very cute girl...

I changed this from a Sepia to a Black and White and worked with it a bit. I didn't have much to work with......

Sepia or Black and White...? I suppose it comes down to what one is attempting to convey. The Sepia allows one more easily to put oneself in the past but the black and white is equally timeless...either way, this image tells a story of a little girl, alone on the streets...crammed between two posts to prevent the rain from drenching her. jim
