I seem to be lucky at the moment. My latest issue...

I was in mid shoot last night using the EVF. As I picked up the camera to take a shot I noticed the the EVF was black but all the information was still been displayed. I had an issue before with my second body where I was getting black frames, so I thought this was the same. But no, I could still take pictures and the would show in the EVF after the shot was taken.

My next guess was that I have a bad connection with the EVF so I tried the rear screen and exactly the same issue.

No Live View but the camera still takes photographs and can show them on the screen after!!!

I know some people will say they never use LV but I have two lenses that backfocus so I need to use LV.

Has anyone else had the same issue. I know the fix is for the camera to go to its second home back in Germany. Did I marry and divorce Leica without knowing about it, as the "kids" are doing one month with me, one month with Leica, then back to me for a month...

Hi,

Maybe it does't make sense, I never used the EVF. But I was one time in a situation where I wanted to use LV and it just did't work. After fiddling through the menu for a longer while I realised, that I had chosen CLASSIC/LV DEACTIVATED as metering method. Could you by mistake have activated that? As I have said, I don't know if that would have an impact on the EVF.

Otherwise I would try to reset the camera once, maybe even re-install the firmware, before I would send it to Leica.

All the best,

Florian

Thanks Florian, no this was mid-shoot without me touching the menu. I have an adapter for putting Canon lenses on to the camera, so I have used that to fool the camera into thinking a lens is attached. Looking at what is happening, when I try to use Live View the shutter opens and closes (at about 1/30 second shutter speed) and then remains closed. So I think my shutter is on the way out.

Well, Leica have diagnosed that I need a new shutter. As the camera is still under the 3 year warranty they are standing over it and looking after the repair. I love company's with good after sales service!

Just curious, how much did you use your camera to wear out the shutter - 10K, 100K or more?

The camera was bought new in January '15 and I would say I have about 45k actuations. However, it did have a very heavy fall in August which knocked the focus out. I had the camera repaired, but maybe the fall damaged the shutter as well. The service engineers in Leica are looking into why the shutter failed.
