jpk Posted November 11, 2015 Share #21 Â Posted November 11, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) For travel I like either 28 and 50 or just 35 on its own. Â Me too! Â ...or 35+21mm! Â LV is fine for the 21mm!

Peter Kilmister Posted November 11, 2015 Share #22  Posted November 11, 2015 Surely it depends on where you are going? If you like city destinations then wide angle might be best. For wildlife in wide-open spaces telephoto might be best. With a 35mm and 24MP you can cover more things than you'll lose. If the object is too close you can usually take a step or two back or to the side. If it is too far away then crop the negative. It is all down to personal choice. Asiafish summed it up very well in post #13.
MT0227 Posted November 13, 2015 Share #23  Posted November 13, 2015 I had the same 2 lens kit; recently added the 21SEM to complete the triangle offense  honestly all 3 lenses combined with the body are not that heavy for me, (~3.4lbs or ~1579g) and pack up rather nicely.  Since you have the 35mm, I think 28mm may be too close to warrant more cash in this area; I don't love the 24mm options; the 21SEM seems to be the next ticket below 35mm if you are looking to do lean into some wider angle stuff..especially given the price point.  I think extensive international travel will lend itself nicely to 21mm wide angle street and architectural shots where you have reasonable lighting (you could always turn to the Lux if not); it will also serve as nice landscape option if you shoot that type of stuff.  I agree, for the money it's a great lens...actually its a great lens period.  I guess the real answer is going to be what it is you plan to shoot. MarkP Posted November 13, 2015 Share #24 Â Posted November 13, 2015 It's all personal but... Â 90 if you want to go longer 21 if you want to go shorter. Â I really like 75 but not as a general purpose focal length IF going longer from 50 then go straight to 90. Â Personally I use 28 & 50 as my general 2-lens kit, and 21 SEM (preferred) or 90 Macro-Elmar for a third lens depending on what I'm photographing. 28,50,90 covers most situations you may find yourself in with no need for an external VF. CheshireCat Posted November 13, 2015 Share #25 Â Posted November 13, 2015 21 for sure. Â Ideally: 21, 35, 75 ... but I understand the APO 50 is something special

vladik Posted November 15, 2015 Share #27 Â Posted November 15, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have with m 240 35/1.4 and apo 50. Looking for third lens debating between 21/3.4 and 75 apo. I use rf no evf. Extensive international travel. Any advice, other lens? I have the 2/75 APO and loving it, than again I do gravitate to the longer lenses, 2.8/28mm got some use recently, 2/35 has not been touched for a long while so 1.4/50 and the 75 are used most, my 2c worth. John Perkins Posted November 15, 2015 Share #28 Â Posted November 15, 2015 Where are you traveling, and what types of photos will you be making there? Â Some example thoughts along the lines of that question: Â - People in the mid-west and western part of the US often find long lenses helpful for some landscapes. The compression can make some foreground grass, a barn and distant mountains more compact and present in a scene for instance. Â - When I was just in Hawaii, I could not have lived without my 20mm lens (on a different system). I wanted to have the immediate foreground and background included. And in other shots, like on waterfalls, I simply needed the wide angle to fit in the scene from the forced places where I could stand. Â - If I were going to Tokyo and doing street, I wouldn't bother to take that third lens you are considering buying. I personally would just use 28mm or 35mm. dawnsemd Posted November 16, 2015 Author Share #29 Â Posted November 16, 2015 I do live in Southern California but travel to europe, east asia, south america and more rarely to africa. I used to shoot canon with 5d3 and kept the system though I rarely use it with 24, 85 primes and 24-70, 70-200 zooms . I love the light weight of leica . I would customize the set for each trip but I must admit hiking albeit even for not too long distsnces in south america with a backpack full of lenses was quite heavy. I love shooting both in cities and out in nature . I am more leaning to the sem 21 but like the short focusing distance of the 75 ( not for travel I wouldnt mind a noctilux for portraits and night time photo) i want to make sure I invest in lenses that I will actually use thanks to all for your wise answers
