Deliberate1 Posted October 27, 2015 Share #1 Posted October 27, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Friends, I have my eye on a used M that has more than 1.5 years left on the warranty. The seller will provide the blank card and sales receipt confirming its US provenance. I called a Leica store and the rep confirmed that the warranty does not technically transfer to a new owner. That being said, she indicated that so long as the sales receipt is provided, there should be no issue. After all, a camera could be bought by someone for someone they love (oh, to have such a person....). Anyone here have any real life experience dealing with Leica on a warranty issue as an "unoriginal" owner? Obliged, David

jdlaing Posted October 27, 2015 Share #2 Posted October 27, 2015 I have. Leica honored a warranty on an M body that I bought from the original owner.
sahe69 Posted October 27, 2015 Share #3 Posted October 27, 2015 Actually I remember seeing a thread here where a Leica executive was quoted saying that their warranty always follows the product and not the owner. Might be that your rep is not fully infomed on this, or has misinterpreted the warranty conditions. (Sorry no personal experience, at least yet). Jeff S Posted October 27, 2015 Share #4 Posted October 27, 2015 This has been discussed numerous times, for example... http://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/113809-transferability-of-guaranty/ Technically, it seems the warranty applies to the camera in Europe, and to the original owner in the US. [Passport rules also differ.] However, there are known instances of Leica NJ honoring warranties despite the technicalities. I had a personal experience sending lenses to NJ for calibration and adjustment, when all were done gratis despite one of the lenses being clearly beyond the warranty expiration. Moral....act nice...and if at first you don't succeed, try another rep... Jeff
