Day 1 Serious Issues

Good evening. My first post. Hope you can assist.

After waiting months to have my M9 sensor replaced and still no completion date forecast I decided to take the discounted upgrade option and ordered a new M last Friday. It arrived from Wetzlar this afternoon and I excitedly unpacked it and charged the battery ready to start rangefinder shooting again.

2 hours later I fitted the battery, new SanDisk Extreme Pro 95MB/s 16Gb card, and the Summilux 50 and expected the best.

Unfortunately I was a little more than disappointed.

First issue was black frames. Live view showed nothing, just a black screen. Rangefinder shooting showed nothing, just black images. After much fiddling it seemed that if I switched off the automatic lens detection the camera worked fine (well almost, problem 2 is coming up next). I could also get the camera to work with automatic lens detection switched by unlocking the lens and moving it slightly. Obviously something wrong here :(

Second issue is a series of multicoloured vertical lines on the left had side of any image taken. I thought maybe there was something strange going on with the lens but even shots taken with no lens attached have the lines.

Third issue is weird bands in live view. They are not incredibly obvious but there are a number of strange bands on the screen when using live view. They are in a totally different position to the coloured lines described in problem 2.

Sent an email back to Leica asking them what I should do but I think I should be due a straight replacement from the nearest dealer. If I had the camera for a few months and it started to malfunction I could maybe accept a repair but as I haven't shot a frame with it I guess they should just replace it straight away.

Has anyone else had similar issues? Am I just doing something wrong?? Happy to be told I have done something stupid but I am pretty sure you should be able to simply turn the camera on and start shooting

Hope I can get some feedback from you guys

Gareth

Great news. Leicas customer service has been excellent again and they agreed to arrange a replacement today. Was a bit of a pain to go and collect it (3 hour round trip) but seems well worth it so far. Hope to do some shooting tomorrow :)

Outstanding!

Try a 64 GB Extreme Pro card in place of the 16 GB. The camera will respond faster for some reason. Faster startup times.

The local dealer said they had never seen anything similar. Anyway, the new body seems perfect. Looking forward to posting some shots etc on here now I am back in the Leica community after a few months enforced absence.
