Editing raw photos

I recently received my Q and haven't been thrilled with the jpeg photos- colors and white balance are off if not perfect outdoor shot- So I'm diving into raw photo editing and hope I begin to love the camera.  What is the most simple, quick program to edit the Q photos for someone who is just starting out.  I know the camera has to take great photos after looking at all the great ones on this site.

The Q comes with a free download of Lightroom, that would probably be the ideal once you understand the interface. If you have photoshop and bridge, you can view the DNG (raw) files in bridge and when you click on the image, it will open in photoshop with the tools to process the image. Those are the only 2 I use, and since lightroom is free, I would take advantage of that.

LR from Leica will apply corrections for the lens distortions. Before you get in too deep, realize that LR is a massive program for managing your photos in its custom database structure. If that is what you want, fine.

Raw Therapee, a donation-only program, is also good for Leica Q DNGs. Start with exposure and white balance adjustments, and the lens distortion slider; take up one or another of its many other adjustments one by one as your curiosity leads you.

Like everyone else said, best to give Lightroom a go. It's a powerful program that's intuitive and easy to use. Just a quick suggestion; once you've downloaded the images into LR make sure you use the Develope tab to make edits rather then use the limited tools under the Library tab. Once you're in Develope all the sliders are pretty self explanatory. It's good you are moving to RAW, that's where the magic is.

Personally, the only issues I've had with the color jpegs is oversaturated reds, and I find the black & white jpegs to be outstanding.

Another vote for LR. I've used it since the very first beta version and it's grown in capability (and complexity) over the years. That said, at heart it is still an intuitive programme to use with a host of features. Combined with SFX pro for B&W image conversion and you don't really need anything else IMO.

Well I wish I could download lightroom.  My guarantee card has no "TAN" number on it.  Hope Leica returns an email or phone call soon.'

There is a separate card that will have this number look in the packaging.
